    Typography

I think it looks very nice. I would only work on the typography / line-height for the content text.

    colors and headings

Hey Brock. This design has some nice features, like the border treatment around the bottom photos and the Free boxes at the bottom. There isn't much to pick on from a layout perspective, but as for design, here are my thoughts on possible reasons for high bounce rate:

    • Overall, the site is too dark. The logo, navigation, sub navigation, and card samples in the main slideshow are all black. If you have the ability to work on the logo, I'd at least add a warm color. In the showcase, use some popular selections (I'd bet they are not black and white).

    • The text in the showcase and 3 boxes below is very hard to read. It takes some closer viewing to grasp the concept in each of these boxes. If the text was clear to read and popped at you, I think the users would quickly find what they are looking for and move forward. Also, consider using different images (or scale down the middle one) in the first 2 boxes below the showcase. I can't really tell what they are.

    • The text in the bottom is too small and not dark enough. I also think this section could be moved inbetween the showcase and the 3 boxes.

    Good luck.

    Almost there

Very nice site, you're almost there. Everything looks great except your header. I don't like the logo sitting in the middle like it is. The logo in general doesn't seem to work very well. The mixture of the clean text with the swirls around it, doesn't flow well. Keep working on the header, it's the only thing that doesn't work.

    Less emphasis on features

Posted on Mar 11, 2010 at 6:51 PM

I think that there is a huge emphasis on features, and not so much on experience. The area of the site that tells me about the good feelings I will have after I create an invite is slipped between the top graphics, and the shipping/envelope items. This is the part I want to read first. It's also an issue that the line length here is way to long. It's difficult to read. This part needs a serious redesign and given a higher priority. Or it needs be designed into the main graphic.

Free Customization??? Why bother stating that. I think a user is expecting that. and they are demanding it to be free if you want their business. So touting a feature that isn't really a feature is wasting valuable space.

I would rather read about how fun and easy it is to personalize my amazing invite.

Mark, I find your feedback very helpful. Part of the problem we're having with the site is that customers aren't understanding what they can do with the site. Meaning, we are the only company out there that lets you change colors and patterns with the amount of flexibility we offer. The customers aren't, for some reason, understanding that you can do this and as such, aren't staying on the site as long as they should, resulting in low conversions. I'm interested in hearing what you have to say about this. I think you suggestion of focusing on the emotional benefit rather than the features is a good one, just struggling with how to achieve this while solving the above problem.
