The right hand list of posts...

Posted on Mar 09, 2010 at 6:50 PM

Because the right hand column list of recent posts is the same color as the rest of the text (albeit a bit larger) I was not drawn there as a user. However... The header is beautiful! Very clean overall design, this is great work Mr. Gale!!

Thanks Matty, good advice, I'll work on it.

    Right side content area

I agreed with the previous review. You could possibly try a simple, but very subtle transparent line to separate the two areas. Other than that thought, I really like the whole concept!

    more navigation options

Posted on Mar 09, 2010 at 8:10 PM

agree with the other comments about differentiating the sidebar.

More navigation options could also add value such as using tagging or related posts.

But visually its nice, clean and easy on the eye.

I'll see if I can do some more organizational structure with it thanks!

The design is clean and the New Posts section in the header is cool, but the overall design doesn't engage the user nor does it help people get to what they want quicker.

To engage, I suggest adding a "comments count" icon near the post header and perhaps a link to the comments section to reply.

For quick navigation, I'd replace the New Posts section with a "Posts Like This" section since if the person is reading this post, they're probably interested in posts like it (same category or tags).

Thanks everyone for the great advice, I'll look into that and see what I can do. I love the ideas. Keep 'em coming.

Joey, thanks for posting that. I love all 3 ideas: smaller header, having a comments count, and the posts like this. I'll get working on that.

reduce size of the header a bit

Posted on Mar 10, 2010 at 12:19 AM

Clean design on the content but may bea little too much on the header. Can reduce it a bit to bring in more focus on the content.

Thanks Avinash, I wrestled with that myself. I'll work on finding that balance.

    Good start

Here are a few things to work on:

    1. Your logo could be be better, looks just like text right now
    2. Either tie the blue color in the rest of design more or lose the blue color
    3. The text on the header image is a little misplaced, same with the social links.
    4. Define the right column more.
    5. Put the thumbnails on the left of the content instead of the right.

I like the logo recommendation. I'll work on that. I was struggling with that.

I really don't want to ditch the blue color so I'll see where else I can tie it in. I experimented with having a blue color be the background for the sidebar for definition.

I think the comments need a lot of work like you mentioned. Moving the thumbnails is a great idea to start.

      Thank you for your thoughts!
