I love the simplicity of this business card design, I also think that the font's are well chosen and work hand in hand!
Great Work!
I love this...great font choice. Only thing I might add is that maybe you remove some of the swirls in the phone number but keep it the same font...if possible. Its sort of hard to read.
can you read the numbers? people are saying they are hard to read..? what numbers do you see, which ones look confusing? thank you very much for your review :)
You know what, after a second look, I think the numbers are fine. Just ignore what I said... :D
Email is a nice touch, the concept sounds good with the smoke and all but it doesn't really scream finance to me and just worry if printed that fine font my get a bit lost with on all that white space, also the phone number is slightly hidden
phone number's importance is obviously less than the email in this instance. he would rather be contacted via email. so hidden is okay, as long as people can read the numbers, do you have trouble reading the numbers? --ill make sure the printing will be legible & clear
Awesome Cards!
It may be a cliche' move, but I think it would look good to change the script font from black to green, like money.
Just a thought.
I like the elegance of the design but I'm not sure the card says enough about you. I see that you do something with financing but don't know if you are an accountant, advisor or something else. The business card should be a statement of what you do.
Also, the grey text needs a bump in readability. Darken the color a bit so that you can see it better. Not really sure if the phone number works in the font. Just some things to consider on this design.
thanks for the review nate, well "master of finance" is a specific title that lets employers in the business know he's not talking accounting.. do you have trouble reading the numbers? can you tell what they are?? ill make it the right shade of gray for printing, but i just want to know if the font hinders you from knowing which numbers are written there. thanks very much for the feedback~
Yeah, at first I wasn't sure what it said. But I zoomed in to read it and still didn't get what it said. I think the large spacing between the numbers makes this look like something other than a phone number.
I work in that industry and get a good vibe from it. Although the fine scotch has been replaced with grey goose and red bull, the concept gives an aura of prestige through its simplicity. Very smart domain play too... hope Edward likes it :)
I love the front, but I'm confused by the back.
Is that supposed to be an email address? Whilst people working in design and media might love it, a conservative middle manager might not 'get it'.
So while I love the design, I think that its not quite suited to its purpose of getting one's foot in the door in IB.
If you're looking for inspiration for good IB business cards, watch the business card scene from American Psycho...
it is supposed to be an email address, i did hesitate with this, because it is a very fresh email address where tradition might be more important. i asked the client what he wanted and he liked the email that we used. we discussed that this email is only useful if written or printed, because to say it aloud would be very confusing. I've seen American Psycho and did love that scene.. (the rest of the movie however was totally disgusting) however those cards all looked the exact same, and only left room for font, printing, and paper choice. to stand out in the business now i think a business card should also stand out. you made very legitimate points and i really appreciate the feedback you gave, thank you very much.. i might make the @ symbol a little more apparent, would this help, do you think?
Hi Miranda,
I'd go a bit further than making the @ more apparent - I'd also label it as "Email:" or "e:"...
The reason for this is that whilst I agree that a business card should definitely stand out, Investment banking is perhaps the most conservative industry around.
The people who make the hiring decisions in these places are usually a bit older than what they are in advertising/design agencies, and are a lot less design savvy.
Good luck,
Gurmesh
Nice work. I really enjoy your minimalistic approach. I'm concerned about how well the gray color will show when printed. I've had problems in the past with similar palettes being disappointed at reduced contrasts, etc. Perhaps try a darker gray?
I like the script for "Master of Finance", but against the black text above it has little strength I think someone else already mentioned this, but try changing the color of Master of Finance. Just make sure that the color does not over power Edwards Wendel. :)
I love the simplicity as well. That said, I would change everything about this card, everything being; the fonts! Museo is a great font and I would suggest using the Museo 500 version and perhaps changing it from caps/lower caps to "Edward Wendel", because it suits the Museo font. Good luck!
thank you for your font tips, i did try this out. i think the 500 is too thick for what I'm going for.. it was much too bold. i took a screen shot, i would love to send it to you and hear your thoughts. I do like the Title Case quite a bit, instead of ALLCAPS. I might change that, thanks for the help :)
The numbers are not very well visible.
I had to look at the contact details for a long time to work out what they say. I like the idea, it's very clever, but think about if your friend is using this address for all his emails. If he has to read it over the phone for example, it becomes "edw @ rd wendel.com" which doesn't really mean anything.
What is a Master of Finance?
it works though.... I am not sure i can read what it says under your name on the front and on the back the @ sign just bugs me lol but great work bro
thanks very much :)
