You just (again) proved the point that developers really like options and choices :)
I only see 2 actions on the main page; a search bar, and another search box (which ISN'T the advanced search?).
So, you provide a quick search under which you state "use the advanced search", and next there's a search box with much more options, which ALSO says "use the advanced search". That's really confusing.
How about just making the 2 main options you mention the only things people can 'do' when reaching the homepage?
1) FIND THE RIGHT BIKE FOR YOU 2) LEARN MORE ABOUT BIKES
both maybe with 1 or 2 lines explaining what they are.
If you want a search on the first page; make it just a search bar.
I won't go into the next pages, since they look very 'bike geek' to me, and I'm no bike geek hahaha.
Thanks for the specific feedback. I keep oscillating between having too much and too little on the front page. This sounds like good advice.
I tweaked the "feedback drawer" from an open source component--a module for Drupal called Feedback. In case anyone goes looking for it, you can find it at http://drupal.org/project/feedback.
You are providing a ton of information and I wouldn't try to push the design much more. Contrary to others, I feel purpose is very well achieved. It doesn't look branded which gives me the feeling that information is unbiased.
It's not like Google gives you an award winning design when they display search results, you're doing essentially the same thing, sorting massive amounts of data.
Good luck!
While I think this works for you purposes, I don't think it's overly creative or done very well I'm not trying to be harsh here but the design feels like it was stuck in a time warp. Very segmented, washed colors, Not very engaging. and some alignment issues. I would say a start over on this project would help. Let me know if you have questions...
Thank you for your feedback.
Can you be more specific about (a) the alignment issues and (b) how you would address the "very segmented" problem. (I understand what you're saying there, but I haven't been very happy with the other variations I've tried that were less segmented.) Do you have advice or examples about how to make it more cohesive?
http://net.tutsplus.com/ is a site that has dealt with segmentation in a great way. They have a lot of segments in their site, but it all still flows very well.
Does this all make more sense or do you need some more explanation?
btw, NICE feedback form! created it yourself, or is it an online service?
