    Too much grey

Posted on Feb 17, 2010 at 2:42 PM

Good direction so far, but I think some things could change.

    1. I would try using a fade rather then slide reveal on the main featured part.

    2. Slow down the latest news cycle and have it stop on mouseover if you can.

    3. I'm not a fan of all the grey...It feels like it is not active or unaccessible..

    4. The layout works, but feels kind of like a wireframe, fixing the grey issue will probably resolve this.

    5. The featured slider should fade to dark green in the background. When it's a transparent image, the background changes colors harshly.

On a good track though my friend!

Thanks Ben for the feedback, I agree with you on point 1 and 2, I was also thinking to do make these changes.

3- you have a good point, but from usability point of view it is very easy to read on gray background. But I would experiment with more lighter background near to white color.

5- This has been done intentionally to highlight picture area. Thanks again, I would do experiment to make better.

    colors and padding

Posted on Feb 17, 2010 at 6:33 PM

The layout is not bad, but the colors make this site look old. Also, I'd add some more padding in the header and in the navigation - everything is packed too close together.

Thanks Andy, You have a very valid point for header padding. Yes it seems very packed. Maybe It should decrease the logo size.

The gray - Needs more Contract

Posted on Feb 17, 2010 at 11:01 PM

Nice design and purpose, the green gets and holds my attention.

however after the green top section the website gets kinda boring and uninteresting.

Try introducing more of that nice green colour down the page.

    Good work!

      Thanks Luke,

I seems to be getting very good feedback from all of you.

In project section below about section, there will be four different projects with different picture and text. Maybe the n it would not be very boring.

Footer improvement may also improve bottom section. Thanks

    The Footer

Posted on Feb 18, 2010 at 1:12 AM

I like the site overall, and I think its a nice clean concept.

In the about section maybe you could put the pictures on top, followed by the text, just my personal preference like to see the pics first before I read the text.

I also like Luke's idea of re introducing the green color. You have probably already thought of this but you could reuse it in your footer and make more extensive use of that section.

Here's a link to a post a I tend to go back to when I am looking for new ideas on footers.

Thanks Yasmin, I would see how I can reintroduce green color. Most probably in project section.

    Good start

Posted on Feb 18, 2010 at 7:55 AM

This is a good solid start. Here are few things to work on:

    1. The logo header feels squeezed and forced. Add some more padding to make it feel more natural
    2. Make your navigation at the top more prominent.
    3. Bring your sub navigation below the header and make and just make it simple on the gray background.
    4. Your image header is pretty strange. I don't like how the gradient flows into the image and the way the text is laid out on top of it.
    5. On your text areas don't use the an underline for the headers, except for the headers in the bar on the right
    6. The learn more link is a bit oddly placed.
    7. In the largest text area, the images have too much space between them. It also feels strangely weighted. Maybe put the images above the text...keep playing with it.
    8. Lastly, start the footer over. The footer looks really out of place. I would use a dark, neutral footer, maybe some sort of charcoal color?

Keep working through this site, I'm confident you'll have something you can really work with here.

Hi Nate thanks for your valuable comments,

      1- Agreed

2- This has intentionally not made very prominent.

3- Interesting point, I would experiment.

      5- This could be experimented.

7- Actually, in main site the images would be somewhat bigger they will have the same amount of white space which is equal to left of first image.

8- I have already planned a footer rework, more like standard wordpress blog footer.

Thanks again Nate, you really have made very valuable comments.

I don't think that green and gray are good color combination.

    Gray background

Posted on Feb 18, 2010 at 3:48 AM

Very professional, love the green cover, use of space etc.

Only thought is that the gray background could be lightened a bit, or changed somehow.
