Color and structure need some improvement

Posted on Feb 17, 2010 at 1:21 PM

It is a very good design (specially slider). but there are arias where you can improve it.

1- Red color on navigation is make it almost unreadable

2- In Event Highlights section: It could be improved by adding categories (e.g. event name). You can't judge which picture belongs to which event.

      Thank you Ejaz!

Hmm I'll take another look at the nav but the red reads just fine for me (obviously in this small image it is hard but when the image is expanded to normal size it seems fine).

Very good idea about the highlights section. I've been so caught up with my layout troubles that I've blown right past some things!

Ben, Thanks for the feedback on my feedback.

Maybe red color on navigation looks good on full image but Form usability point of view It is very hard to read red on black due to very low level of contrast.

There are people who would love to go to concerts but could not be very good with their eyes. These people even may not distinguish between navigation text with its background.

Solution: Use a shade having some contrast with background. e.g. Yellow, Gray, Even Red (with lighter shade). You have to experiment shade to find the suitable color.

      Anyway, its a good design.

    Not there yet

For some reason I think you are on the cusp of a design that really works, but I just don't think this is it yet. Your alignment still feels a little off and some of the elements (Navigation, sign up & paragraph), feel random and out of place. Below I pasted some pages that I feel do the "clean" look really well. Try to learn from the pages and get something down that really works!

The event highlights repeat and should not.

Dustin, I know it repeats. The images are not real. Merely there to show where images will appear.

    Red nav menu items

Posted on Feb 18, 2010 at 3:40 AM

Looks nice. I agree that the red nav menu should be changed somehow - the clarity isn't the best with red on black. If, for example, they were all white, then you used some other sort of selection style (bold or underline) then I think it would look much more professional.

Signup for invites needs more padding and the top and/or bottom and needs to be aligned better with the other content. Perhaps make the fields bigger as well?
