    blog teasers

Posted on Feb 16, 2010 at 1:54 PM

    Hi Jon,

This design is coming along nicely - definitely a step in the right direction so far :)

For the frontpage, I'd suggest increasing the design for the blog teasers. Currently, the large thumbs seem to be competing with the sidebar and the header text is almost as big as the text itself. It might be a good idea to include the date / author.

Here's an example of a blog layout that might work better for this design: http://www.briangardner.com/ -larger text for headers -smaller thumbs -smaller text -include a "read more" -include author and date -add a spacer between each post

This is just a suggestion - a bolder layout could work too.

A sans-serif font might also work better with your content (a little more casual than Palatino Linotype or Georgia).

I'm looking forward to your next version!

    Cheers, Serina

Good images used, i only feel that the whole site is full of boxes. My eyes didn't know which to focus. Perhaps due to different sizes,Can you make the left three boxes consistent in sizes.

The sign up box could be of different visual. a plain color would be a cool one. Else you can try a flat bgcolor and on top of the email text box a pup or a kitty's peeping on top of the box would definately draw attention. I hope you got my idea.

      cheers :)

thanks for the advice on the grass side box. I think I will go with a solid color to start and see if that looks ok and then investigate a gradient.

    The thumbnails

Posted on Feb 17, 2010 at 12:56 AM

I would recommend you can further reduce the boxes size to much smaller thumbnails.

Or you can bring the menu betweent the small box and big box.

The grass background for the email sign up looks pretty odd.. You can give a gree gradient to it. I would look nice.

other than that.. I would say it has come up very well.. it will need few more major revisions before it is ready. But you are on the right track!

    all the best :)

thanks for this suggestion. I really think it helps the layout overall to move the thumbnail carosel up and the nav below. cheers

    Better, but only slightly

It doesn't look like you have done too much on this but what you have done I like. Here are a few comments:

    1. The header still needs work.
    2. Change the purple headings back to black

    The nav and blog display

Posted on Feb 17, 2010 at 12:45 PM

    1. The navigation is a bit small for a bold text. It seems a bit squished. I would increase the size a bit.

    2. The logo should be much larger. It gets swallowed up in the large green header.

    3. It's very unclear what the boxes below the navigation are. Are they an extension of the navigation? Are the blog posts?

    4. The blog posts need something to separate them. A border, alternating background, etc. As of now they blend together too much.

Overall it seems like you definitely have potential for this site, I would make sure that you make it clear to the user where he/she is supposed to focus and go.

      1. thanks for the concrete guidance...
      2. once again thanks
      3. yeah I am taking Allwin's advice and moving the nav below the carosel of featured posts (and I will add a FEATURED POSTS) title to indicate what they are.
      4. once again great concrete guidance on this. Yeah I think coloring the background slightly or adding a seperator wil help heaps.

      thanks again for the suggestions
