I would make her more grainy, to match with the vintage feel :) Otherwise, great job!

    Overall

Posted on Feb 10, 2010 at 2:29 PM

the design is nice, the typography is cool...

the only thing I would watch is that logo at the top, I first read it as FrockRoll & Presents (Roll needs to bigger than presents!)

Also remember punctuation... caroline's (it's her birthday)

    Nice One!

    Good work

Great style and typography on this invite. Not really much I would change. The only thing I would say, make the "&" symbol at the top the same color red you used at the bottom. Great work!

great design, only thing if i could point out is the photo of the lady could be better mixed and matched to gel with the overall image

She has red hair, so my idea is to have the same picture where she is black and white and her hair is red. Or do the colour photo, but fade the colours out so they are just hints.

      Thanks for the feedback.

oh i do love grunge designs! :) my first impression was a good one, this is a pretty nice design. i wish i'd get flyers for my birthday party. ;)

the typography is great, although the ampersand at the top is bugging me. it tilting to the side like that feels a bit off and i feel it's making the word "presents" look crowded.

one thing though, you said old school rockers is part of the target audience. my first impression of those fonts is country music.

what type of old school rock we talking here? 80's metal (megadeth metallica etc)? 70's classic rock?

the fonts and borders look great but they dont really say old school rock to me.

the textured background is perfect however.

i think i saw somewhere you said you were thinking about changing the lady's hair back to red, but keeping the rest black and white, i'd like to see that i think it would be an excellent touch.

I've fixed the ampersand, let me know if you think I have made a boo boo or an improvement. Oh and brought some red out in her hair, just for you : ) Her hair is very red so if i bring too much out it's quite overpowering.

    Maybe focus on Caroline

Posted on Feb 12, 2010 at 4:21 AM

    Love it, absolutely love it!

The only thing I might try is blurring the background to make the eye focus on Caroline, make her pop.

OTOH it might work better this way, she's blending in. Worth trying though.

    Typography on Logo

I really like the design. Number one is my favorite. The slight opacity on the type makes it look much more professional.

I would adjust the layout of Frock & Roll in the first concept. I couldn't tell if it was FP Rock & Roll Resents, or Frock & Proll. But I really like the way you used the ampersand in the first concepts compared to the second.

    try sepia color tones

Really nice design, but I think the greyscales are little to dull for the nice design.

    what about this:

The amount of color in the hair

Posted on Feb 15, 2010 at 8:15 AM

    Hi Surya,

I think this invitation looks fun.

I think the hair color brought out as you have it is a bit too much. Have you considered highlighting subtley other items? Such as maybe her pearls, lips like Marylin, just a few curled highlights (possibly in party colors) in her hair? Or adding a party item and highlighting only that with color, a drawn in princess crown on her hair?

Why not just put the ampersand in front of roll normaly and let the color draw to her with whatever you select to highlight. Right now the color only draws to the undecided placement of an ampersand. If anything why not add color to the crown in the thing you have going on above the word "frock"?

I think the text color of the second one down would look great with the background as you have it in the first one.

cheated alignment on The to be central above Royal

Posted on Feb 17, 2010 at 11:04 AM

Love it. Seems like a very cool professional invite. only proof suggestions. close gap between 6 and Th to be consistent with 8pm. have you tried flipping the red onto 'the royal sandard and 6 and 8 instead of on, march, from and onwards?
