Decided to go back to the colours i have been using for the site for a few years now.
Also tried something a little different with the background.

Good clean, crisp layout.
I'd like to see an accent colour, to add some variation to the dominant red, and to highlight areas of importance.
Try a rich green, sage or teal.

about, contacts and read more buttons seem too much 'salmon' to me though.
i would darken, desaturate and blur (why not a defocus effect ?) a little bit the background, and put twitter and facebook icons with their original colors.
Not a huge fan of the thin white border too.
Clean layout, good use of red, good work !

I like where you are taking this. Here are a few ideas:
- Work on your logo. I would just use "Filmtastic" with the web address below it.
- Use a more abstract image for the background
- Lose the ticket in the right hand corner for something less literal
- Extend the sidebar all the way to the bottom
- Give your buttons more padding and shrink the text in them
Great work here so far, keep it up!

Too much red for me but I admit this concept is better. I think "follow me" should be aligned with the layout below.
I could try that, as the design does need another colour from red.
