    could be better

I don't like the top menu and the search bar. This is not the font, the color and the style. You must be more creative for such a magazine. The right column is too busy and not aligned properly. I'm not fan of the italic especially on the footer. Readability is more difficult with italic. The article pagination looks very strange. Think of another way of designing it. You could play with the author name and the date. To be honest - I don't like the whole layout.

For this kind of sites you must combine clean and usable with attractive design. The most online magazines looks stylish but at the same time are highly usable and simple in structure.

Thank you for you review, there are some good points you've mentioned however I feel that you're more keen to those web 2.0 magazines that have a artsy header and that's not what i wanted to achieve with this since i was going for a minimalistic, clean, non web 2.0 look similar to webdesignledger and smashingmagazine.

    good start

If you want to make something similar to earlier created websites like SmashingMagazine or design ledger, then this is good.

If you want to have something different/better, you can work on this a little.

Few things you might want to consider.

    1. Article based website have lot of content and not all users would want to read every single article. Instead of making them scroll all the way to down, just to see the latest articles, you can also have a top section where you can place the main image of every article is changing image/slideshow along with the title of the article.

    2. Placing adds together looks heavy on a website. A better option would be to break it into sections. Your content will make people come to your website and then they might click on the advertisements. on the right sidebar, try keeping the category section on the top below the main large advertisement. On the right of it, you can always place the ads. This way, while checking out the categories, people can click on the advertisement if its related to what they want/looking for.

    Quite Busy

You really have to find a way to make this much more simple and article focused. Right now the ads are just dominating the focal points and it's hard to concentrate on the articles. Currently, I don't think the design is work very because of that.

    Tighter grid structure and hierarchy

Posted on Feb 10, 2010 at 3:14 PM

I think my biggest problem is its just in my FACE! The ads are really bulky and I have a hard time finding my way through this because I feel that you lack hierarchy as a whole, otherwise I think within the articles it looks good. i think why it also look kinda bulky is because your grid structure is off a little. Does it have to be one big page? Really push the organization of information, the more uniform it is the more you can push that minimalism as well. Just step back for a sec.
