you have to much shadow, the wrapper shadow looks ok, but the about box shadow doesn't look to good, keep it clean.
The red looks great for me :).
I think you could completely remove it, an if you feel the text is out of place play with some subtle border around it.
I like the banner and the drop down menus, but I'm just not feeling the gradient and the tab in the body. It doesn't fit with the whole "clean and simple" ideology. It looks out of place. I'd say shoot for the less is more here and just simplify the boxes and bring them more inline with the rest of the site.
Your second concept is the best. You have some great potential here but there is some work to be done yet:
Great work so far, just keep refining things.
thanks Nate, as usual, lots of details from your review :) I tried working on it, I end up making it minimalist after reading some more reviews. hm....
I like the second concept the best, but there are a few things that could be tweaked for improvement.
Work on the nav. This could be made into some nice tabs that stick to the top of the image. Or, you could keep it simple as you have it, use shorter dividers, and swap the red for the navy or light gray. Line the top of the sub nav box with the horizontal line. Either remove the left border in the sub nav or add a right border.
Modify the box campaign by making it semi transparent and vertically align it with the image. Make the heading red and create a larger call to action button.
I think it would look nice if you used red headings to draw attention to the content.
If the product/category labels under the small images are buttons, I would make them look a bit more like a button than a label.
Not sure the background pattern fits with kitchens. Maybe use a modern tile pattern or something other element that is a trend in the kitchen designs.
I think that the shadow on the first screen shot should be removed. On the second screen shot I like the layout with the about on the left and the content on the right, but maybe remove the logo, as its not really necessary in that part of the site.
All in all, a very clean design. Well done :-)
It's great I like it.
The only thing I would say is to make the shadow a little more subtle, not to remove it, but change the opacity to say 5 % or so.
Overall very good, cheers!
I would suggest providing a simple red underline to the navigation text on hover and select.
You should fix your drop shadow around the main image. It's not consistent with the other drop shadows. I would also consider reducing the size and spread of your other shadows to give a more subtle affect to the design, and enhance the clean/minimalistic look.
I think the third design is much nicer and I like the underline for the hover. I would play around with the drop down menu a little. Maybe add rounded corners to the bottom. The straight edges don't really work with the design. You may also want to consider providing a little more white space around your content and lining up the headers with the other elements in each section. It looks like 'Info' is not aligned with the block of copy below it, and the padding to the left of info is larger then the top. May also want to consider decreasing the -25% so the copy aligns on the left and right with the image below. I think its coming along.
I liked it especially because, you have a good layout, but it works around the main picture quiet well.
thanks, still need to do more about it since the client is not satisfied with it yet...hm....
3rd design makes the products seem high end. i like that the about section it's smaller and no shadows. the red underline is great too. i like it.
Really like the colour scheme and image viewer.. I also like the bottom thumbnails as well.
I think the drop down needs more work - try making a 2 column drop down or add more padding
I like option 3. Only thing i wanna change will be drop down color option. You may try black color used in option 1 & 2 for the drop down menu.
Nice pleasant site.
Hi, the site is looking great but it would be better to see a live demo ;-) Anyway, dont worry about the red color, you got this color in the logo and the paging numbers. So it looks good from my side. If you are changing it to a different color, i could be too much and destroy the clean design. So my advise, stick with it ;-)
Do you think I should completely remove the big shadow around the "About" area or just minimize the shadow?
