rotating iphone thingy is just sort of annoying

Posted on Jan 26, 2010 at 10:08 AM

I would remove the iPhone rotater...its a cool idea, but its just sort of annoying.

At first glance, I thought your logo was sort of weird(with the a hanging lower,) but after hovering over the navigation I see why you did it. However, I would only use this effect on the navigation and not on the headers.

Other than that, I think you've got a solid design.

Posted on Jan 26, 2010 at 10:48 AM

Hi. For personal site its looks nice but i think you should change pattern on font: adam tal, Blog, About me... and so on. It doesnt look stylish, no sharp, should be changed. good luck

    Keep working

Posted on Jan 26, 2010 at 11:11 AM

I think this is a great direction to move in but I don't think you're finished yet. Here's the list of thigns to do:

    1. The navigation looks off. I'm not sure how to tell you how to fix it other than try some different navs.
    2. I don't like how the logo sits in the bar. It needs more padding around it.
    3. You need more content, the site feels largely unfinished. Give a little bit more about the site below the iphone. Why did you set the site up, what is it all about, who is it for.
    4. Add a line divider above the footer.

    Navigation height

Posted on Jan 26, 2010 at 11:36 AM

Overall I like it. It's simple, and clear. What I would suggest is making the navigation/logo bar height bigger, or add padding. The text looks squashed into this area.

Using the live site, the first character dropping down when hovering over a navigation link is a bit annoying. Adding a 'hover' image background, or border underneath the link would work better.

    Keep going with it.

    Love the site.

I like the drop capital on the rollovers. But i would like to see more of the header bar, which will frame your logo/name. Oh and why capitalise the nav but not your name?

As someone else picked up, the rotating phone is a bad idea when you don't have the space for it. Make the space and it will be much nicer to use.

You have used shadows on some boxes and not others which gives the whole site a strange feel.

Your posts are fairly nice but could do with something extra to perk them up.

It's a good basis for your design keep it up.

    well...

Posted on Jan 26, 2010 at 2:18 PM

    Hi Adam

I am not sure really how to review this, I like the idea, cool...

I hate the logo, the font FFF Tsuji - is nice but overall it's too small, and not that original.

I like the idea of flipping the phone, but I think when that happens the page needs to drop as well so that you do not cut off any text. You say in the grey box below "my $0.02... jQuery best practices...etc" - yet you have't used it! If you're going to state an opinion, back it up.

Overall the design is rather bland, you could make this site look super coole, like interchanging backgrounds that have been taken on your iphone etc (this is also a jQuery script)

Great idea just needs a few tweaks... good luck!

Haha, I was wondering if anyone would notice the jQuery code:) I'll clean it up as I go:)

I liked the idea of moving stuff when the iPhone turns to give it space.

Thanks, this review was really helpful.

    footer stablization

Posted on Jan 27, 2010 at 12:47 PM

hey adam. i took a look at your site, i like the buttons for next/previous pictures, and rotation rollover. i think they are very personal. For some reason your footer seems to be awkwardly floating around down at the bottom. it needs some sort of resolve.. like a line above it or a background color. i think its great to share your iPhone photos, id like to see you change the heading to not include "and other stuff, too." you could write something more intriguing here ill bet. and telling us "my name is adam tal." is sortof redundant. i like that you've got the whole iphone there to frame your photos in their natural setting :) i also like your title for the posts of "my $o.o2..." its clever.

i wonder if including other categories like:family, pictures, and blog are a good idea.. i think it might be great to only feature your iPhone photos on this site. give full attention and remove all the thoughts and clutter. i think your iPhone photography has enough substance to carry the whole site, and be interesting enough on its own site. ..just an idea.

im using firefox, and when i click on any of your links at the top, a selection appears across the whole header... i took a screen shot ill attach. not a huge deal though if you dont fix.

i think that the box on the right, would be nice to darken instead of lighten... (the very transparent rounded edged white area that you're putting white text onto. seems like very transparent black might be better.) i like how this is coming along so far!
