I really like the first concept. Very clean.
The only thing I would play with is the color of the download buttons. Red is generally not a great color for buttons because it scares people off a bit. Using a green or blue will have more people clicking.
LOVE the idea!! Great idea, seriously. Like the version with tan background - although maybe instead of tan, go very light shade of blue? Right now tan, blue and red just seem to clash a little, but shades of blue and red will work well.
Your logo needs help. Honestly even just dropping that transparent stroke and making the drop shadow a much smaller size (like 1px distance, 3 px size) would help a good deal.
And the biggest thing for UI I would suggest is a strong descriptive statement either above or immediately below the browser divs explaining what the purpose/benefit of the page/site is.
Love the idea, but I'm not sure if this actually helps anyone. People will have every version of browser installed on their computers so they can switch to whichever one offers the best compatibility and performance. And I'm not convinced everyone will switch browser just in order to view a particular website, personally if a website doesn't view well in my browser I'll just switch over and blame the code for being written badly (unless it's one of mine ; ). This could also lead to people being lazy with their code and putting your widget on their site as some sort of get out of jail free card.
All of that said, adding code for ie6 and fannying about with all the code to get it perfect in every browser does cause a problem to which your devise is a useful palliative.
Also microsoft and it's browser monopoly needs a bit of help being toppled, their current screen offering you other browsers is like Stephen said 'thrown together' probably by one of their underground bearded code goblins, so I think you are doing sterling work keep it up.
As for the sites actual design, it's fair to say it's neat, smart, to the point and leaves you with every idea about what to do next and what you are about. I would definitely go with the cram* one like Lukas* said ; ).
Oh and maybe, I might suggest, the paragraph you put int he footer could perhaps be a little bigger/easier to read like Joel Govier said about statement of purpose, I get the purpose but others may not.
The blue one and it's logo make it look like a gambling website.
First off, I love this idea completely and I encourage you to continue with this. Now here comes my two cents:
The second concept with the blue is bleh. You could try a sky blue.
The first concept's background is in the right direction. Maybe if it was a lighter biege, it would work better.
The red works great with the biege, but the dark red text in the download buttons are unreadable, so you can either make the text darker or the buttons lighter.
I like the sites design and the concept behind it.
Hello, I definitely like whole concept of project and also design except the blue option. The cram one is the winner for me and I have no additional comments to it. Maybe about links, I would add some link for adding more translations so that community could help you exand this project to the wider audience. I would definitely use this tool on my website. Luke
I would stick with the cream color one. The text is easier to read, and the light blue browser boxes blend with the color better. Your design looks a lot better than the thrown together solution Microsoft has for over in Europe. Google Image "Microsoft Browser Screen" to see what I mean.
Overall I think the first concept works fairly well. I think some of your typography could be better, but it's still not bad. The purpose of the site isn't quite clear if just going to the webpage. I would add some sort of information on why I should go to that page instead of the browsers website to get the most current version.
Not sure how useful the site would be, but the tan background version is more coherent.
In the red Download button, I cant read the black version number text underneath the download wirting. Could this be made white?
If I'd have to choose between the tan and the blue, i'd choose the tan, but how about trying to stick to one set colour instead of red, blue and tan? Maybe use a soft blue for the background, harder blue for the browser buttons, and a hard blue for the 'Download' button.
Just to throw another one at you. You could split this into a 2 column site. Left column could explain what the site is about, and then the right column could have the browsers as rows.
Great use of gradients with the cream background, everyone can agree on that. It looks as if the text under your Download buttons needs to be recolored or the button itself could be reworked. (Ribbons?) You've got something great going to far, can't wait to see your revisions.
I don't like the colors in design No 1 & 2 May be white background with browser logos and make a reflection of it like glass tha't's be good and make logo big and under every logo (small description of browsers and last verison of it ) and before that you should put small description of all site , goals to the normal browsers footer make be gray or good blue ..etc with big font and line-height will be suit to read
thanks
Great idea, but the text on the buttons is not easily readable.
Also, I'd work on the logo and the dark scheme (which is for nightly builds as I understood), probably reflect the theme of night more onviously.
And yes, I definitely should use some kind of link to your site in future projects.
Looks prefect, but maybe try on a transparent background i.e. without those blue boxes.
And I think it would be great to add a brief note about each browser and a link to their respective site, instead of directly opening a new window/tab and taking the user out of your site.
keep it up!!
I love the design and everything except maybe the colors. I like the first one but seems a bit boring. I mean this is an exciting site to have and the colors should reflect this.
I love the idea - when I visited the site I found out that my version fo Firefox was older than the latest one. So I upgraded from 3.5.7 to 3.6 :)
If I could change just one thing it would be more top padding, both in content area and in footer area. I believe it would look more organized if there was more spacing between top margin and content.
I love the design of the creamy one.
From the 3rd screen I get the impression you added png's for the Attention box in ie6. If you did then that is something I would change. Other then that, great job.
Really nice design, I prefer the tan colored background, the blue doesn't seem to work all too well. Also, when looking at the zoomed images, I have a hard time reading the black font below the Download text on the red buttons.
