    Navigation options?

Posted on Jan 25, 2010 at 4:15 AM

I like the look of this, it is very crisp and modern.

Will the labels appear on the bottles? That would be easier for recognition when people are skipping through. Or why not the product shot, as you have that on the website?

Can the font on the chalk board be a chalk board font?

Also, the top title is VERY long. It seems you are repeating information, why not just have the beer title?

Will there be options to sort by rating/type etc?

Will you be able to add you favorites to a list?

The glow around the chosen product is quite minimal, it will be even less when around the brown and glass, beef that up a bit, or use a keyline etc.

Can you put other bar type stuff in there, such as pumps, beer mats etc, just to liven it up.

Other than that the look is great, for a non-beery it may get a bit boring flipping through hundreds of beers, buts then I wouldn't download it :D

      > Thanks.

      > We thought of putting labels on the bottles but this is for a client. Unless we implement a system that can input images and crop it directly onto the labels, it'd be tedious for the client to crop the image label onto the bottles manually.

      >The product shot will be used in the specific beer review page. Not in this view.

Can the font on the chalk board be a chalk board font?

      > That came into my mind, though, it would make the app very childish and informal. That's not what we're aiming for, here.

Also, the top title is VERY long. It seems you are repeating information, why not just have the beer title?

      > Because the guy who reviews the beer prefer to be very detailed with his beers!

Will there be options to sort by rating/type etc?

      > Yes. The buttons in the toolbar will change and you can sort beers from their type and food pairings.

Will you be able to add you favorites to a list?

      > Yep!

The glow around the chosen product is quite minimal, it will be even less when around the brown and glass, beef that up a bit, or use a keyline etc.

      > You know, you would be baffled at how tricky it is to do that in Fireworks. I'd be able to do that easily in Photoshop. I'll find a way, though!

Can you put other bar type stuff in there, such as pumps, beer mats etc, just to liven it up.

      > The first sketches did incorporate the objects you have mentioned. Nevertheless, we think the app would be a lot cleaner this way.

    Iphone app looks good

Posted on Jan 25, 2010 at 9:02 AM

The iphone app looks good but the website needs some work:

    IPHONE APP:

The bar looks good but the background needs to be different. It looks like a floor instead of the background of a bar. I would make it look like there's drinks in the background.

    WEBSITE:

i think your website in general needs to be redone. It doesn't match the quality of the iphone app. The website feels a bit cheap and the colors, images and layout don't really look quite right.

Just my two cents, hope they can help in some small way.

      Hi, Nate,

Please, do not be concerned of the website, that's not to be reviewed. It got on there because I typed in the URL and ConceptFeedback posted that automatically. It's erased now.

Regarding your suggestion on putting more objects (drinks) in the background, as I have told Chris Beddoe, the first sketches did incorporate the objects you have mentioned. Nevertheless, we think the app would be a lot cleaner this way.

By the way, Nate, did you give 2s because of the website? I didn't mean for it to be reviewed, here. I'm aware of how it looks like, right now.

What rating would you give the iPhone app itself?

I understand the reasoning behind not putting bottles in behind the bar. However, if you don't, I think you need to sell the bar concept it in other ways. For instance, I would use a shiny, lacquered looking bar counter surface instead of the flat wood look you currently have. I would also darken the background considerably so that it look like its a bit behind the counter. Maybe even consider adding some subtle bar smoke/haze.

My overall rating of the bar would currently still be around 2 - 2.5 overall not thinking about the website.

      Hi, Nate,

      Thanks for another review.

I'll take the "shiny, lacquered looking bar counter surface" into consideration, :).

And yes, a darker background was what I had in my mind at first however, it made the bottles and glasses on the counter look pixelated. Nevertheless, the second try was good.

In the mean time, please check the updated background.
