    Great Job!

Posted on Jan 15, 2010 at 2:44 PM

I think you did a great job. When I first saw it, I didn't really love it, but after looking at it for a while, I started to like it. I thing I think threw me off was the navigation bar. Try changing that to something else to fit with the style of the body and footer. Again: I really like it. Good work!

      Thanks for the review :)

I agree there is something off with the nav, I tried to make it look like post it tabs but it conflicted with the tabs on the left for the post dates.

Any ideas that would make this concept more engaging? Is it the colors that you find lack-luster? Lack of Imagery?

I looked at it and again, and realized that I really like the background image in the bottom part of the page. Although the grunge or whatever you call it in the top part of the page is good, try making it more interesting with a better bg img. For the navbar I suggest you try using a torn of thick paper, similar color to the body part.

    loosen it up

This is a great start. This theme matches the topic pretty well. I also like how the dates stick out from the content area.

Maybe it's me, but it's hard to tell what the naval officer is doing at the top of the page. If others agree, maybe a more revealing picture would be appropriate.

What's the significance of the orange title? It doesn't seem to fit the rest of the page. Maybe use dark blue with a white outline?

The only other adjustment I would consider is line-height (I always comment on this). I feel like the lines should be separated more to allow for easier and quicker reading. More left/right padding could also help. Great work.

Ill try playing with the Title and the copy format ( line-height, padding, ect. ) With an older audience these would be extremely beneficial edits!

    Fits the bills

There's nothing wrong with the site. I suppose being a naval history blog it's going to have to fit into a certain style. I think you've done a pretty good job at it.

I quite like the design, though I would halve the opacity of the background images just above the footer.

    Good Job!

Lovely design! The text seems a little intimidating. Maybe add spacing or crop and use "read more" buttons. Otherwise, really fabulous!

    The text

Posted on Jan 17, 2010 at 2:33 PM

The text is not wery easy to read, it could be most readable in black, and a litle bigger.

    Not bad

Posted on Jan 18, 2010 at 7:52 AM

The yellow and white doesn't seem to stand off the page enough. The readability is pretty tough. Same with the links on the right, the links are to light of a gray. I would try to choose a different color then the blue. The blue doesn't seem to go with the design very well. Just my thoughts, hope they help.

    Font Color

The font needs to be darkened some. It is REALLY hard to read on that light background.

    Very Nice

I think you did a great job. I think it works for what the site is about. The only thing I might change is giving the header a little more room.
