I like version 2 better, the background works so much better.
Only thing i could suggest improving is the footer. I understand thats probably going to get info in, but if you add some more content to that, i think your good to go on the design.

I like both designs, but the background on number 2 is better than just a gray - white gradient. As Alan already noted, the footer is not complete. Check out other competing sites what they have in their footer. Maybe add a twitter feed, or just make it smaller. Two sites that are similar to this one (I think) have a small footer: http://www.boohoo.com/ http://www.topshop.com Good luck

hey really good start I like number two. also the main banner where it says Clearance sale way to much text for me no one really wants to read that much on a ecommerce website. Alittle text and images of some of the sale items will be great.

Very nice start here. Just a few things I might consider:
- Make the content area longer in length. Currently it's very small and doesn't quite look like a content area.
- Your contact column on the right of the content area feels out of place. I would put this in the footer.
- I think you know that your footer feels pretty unfinished. Move the paypal icons elsewhere, they don't make the most sense there.
I like the one with the background the best. Great start here, very nice work.

thanks for the review Nate, 1. I added some of the fashion items to make the length longer, now it does look better. 2. I couldn't figure out other way since the client want that to be there. 3. You're right, I placed them on the footer instead.

Nice design. I agree with everyone that the background in concept 2 is nicer, but I might tone it done just a tad.
Also, I would incorporate the round edge rectangles around the nav items rather than the gradient for the roll over and active states.
For the clearance sale text, use a 20-22px line-height to make the text more legible.
As Nate mentioned, the contact box doesn't seem to fit on this page. I also think there are too many icons in this area. Maybe you could incorporate the send to a friend and the envelope into 1 concept/button.
You may also want to consider merging the bottom footer with the footer links so they have the same blue treatment. Then, use a horizontal rule/graphic to separate the text from the copyright info. Good work.

I really like this design! I think you could just make the footer shorter and keep it with just the links there (I assume there will be more).

looks great, i like the 2nd one. have you considered a dark grey (#333333) or even black background with the pattern.

I really like this design over all, it's very unique. What I don't really like though is the gradient ast the bottom. I feel like it should be a little more subtle, sort of like what you have at the top.

well, that's the problem. I don't know what else to add, I could just put the social icons on the footer but they don't want it to be on the footer.
