I don't see why you can't create an oversized footer and place all that content there... It does look a little empty and I think placing some real (and useful) content there will give the website more finished look. I love the design otherwise! Great job! Best of luck!
why make people work/think for those important items... I'd consider getting them on the page in a visible location... under the main "billboard" section.
Site is sweet!
If we were to show all of the important information our site would be completely cluttered and overwhelming. We have a ton of content on the site and need to keep the general navigation and look clean and simple. My main concern is highlighting the search bar, not nesecarily the quick links. Thanks just the same for the feedback.
I do have to give credit where credit is deserved. The original site design was done by Synergema (www.synergema.com).
I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on that one.
If a goal of UX/UI and information architecture are to simplify wayfinding and provide a framework for guidance why wouldn't you cluster information into high level topics... give them ability to find their way up front - similar to what your quicklinks seem to do.
Maybe it is because I am not a user of the site, but how am I to search for something that I may not even know exists... how would I know where to start when i could simply be presented with high level information to lead me down a path? Why should I have to work for that?
If visual simplicity is getting in the way of functionality what good is it?
You have some good thoughts Jonathan, but unfortunately don't have the larger picture of what the client wants here. Not saying that I don't appreciate your feedback, because I do, but it would take me a long time to go into detail here. There are many reasons why we don't want to add all the important links on the front of the website. When you are dealing with a church, a lot of ideas that work on other sites don't work for a church site. I will take some these thoughts into account as I move forward though.
Again, please don't get the idea that I don't want your feedback. This is great and exactly what I was looking for, thanks for taking the time to think through this critically!
Cool concept, but till I clicked on the next image I would have never known there was that pull down, maybe it needs a button that stands out more?
Otherwise I think the layout is very readable, things are where I expected them to be as a user :)
Good luck!
Thanks Noel, I'll certainly try to make the quick links button stand out more. Thanks for letting me know, that's exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for!
Hi Nate, looks nice, and neat trick with the Quick Links, however, why not just put the links underneath the large photo and tabs? It would fit nicely in the format you've done it (without the blue background).
Thanks for the feedback, we really want to keep things simple and uncomplicated. Which is why decided to put the links where they are. Thanks again!
Neat and elegant design. try to reduce the height of footer. Nice color combo for center element.
well done.
It seems a decent design but it is not easy to sport quick links link. A slight color change could increase its visibility.
"Quick Links" is a very deceptive word. It does not tell what information this link is offering. A good use of verb could be very fruitful. In other words this link may not encourage your users to click on it.
Anyway, good design
Thanks Ejaz, I will certainly take your thoughts into consideration!
I liked the design of search tab. It is properly highlighting but try out the links at footer or add it by adding sidebar like blogs as it destroys the view of search bar when opened. Other wise nice look of search bar
You do a better job of highlighting the search box on this page than on the current page, however it could be highlighted even more. Suggestions:
Make the search box color lighter
Change the arrow to a magnifying glass or GO button and make this new button a contrasting color
Make the search box wider
Consider moving Switch Campus to another area of the site
On another note, I hate to harp on the point as I know you've received a lot of comments about it, but I have to agree with the other reviewers that the footer is the perfect place for the links in your Quick Links section.
You say your target market is people currently going to the church. If that's the case, they won't be overwhelmed by the amount of links. In fact, they may welcome the opportunity to browse through some of the offerings and pages they might not have known about before. The footer is the perfect place for that.
You have a very strong divider between the body and the footer. I think you'd actually be increasing usability by adding those links.
Just my two cents :-)
Great job! I like the precision and craft of every UI element. Idea of poping down top-bar works well hear.
Hey Nik, thanks for the feedback. We want to keep the information initially hidden so we don't overwhelm the user with hundreds of links and options. We use to have the links in the footer, but it was decided that it was getting too cluttered and overwhelming. Thanks again!
