Man this is awesome, I love it good work!

I think the logo needs some work, as the two yellow things look like glasses of wine...

Maybe make the m & u join with a cone (as in the the actual product) between...

Anyway, I think you can have some real fun with this.

Oh and one other thing, research your kiosks, because they don't make them that funky, and chances are you will have to use what's given to you.

    Great work overall!

Hey thanks Aaran... like I commented back to Nate below it's all for fun...

The cone itself isn't the product... it is the system... kiosk, cone, backend management system... and hey while we're at it an iPhone MU map locator app!

Looking at the bladders they do look wine glass-ish but hey, after a Friday night of people out in the city drink'n it up in the bars and having to walk home maybe that's a good thing! hehe...

As for the kiosk - it would be custom manufactured... I don't think there are any companies out there who produce wireless integrated paper dispensing systems that flash incinerate paper on detection of a coded RFID tag... but then again... who knows

thanks for join'n in on the fun

    uh?

I would have gone right under those stairs. :P

Wouldn't a dispensable catheter be equally, if not better, for this task (hypothetically)? Could drain right into a sewage system rather than spending an excess of $400+ per micro-incinerator.

I'd love to see more designs of this nature and creativity on CF (wink wink).

Interesting idea! I wanted to develop something that would have a low environmental impact and imagined that the "paper" cone/sheet would be made out of a low impact sustainable material...

you also raised a question that was pondering over the weekend about drainage/disposal of the urine and I think that I may have a "conceptual" solution that meets low environmental impact and cleanliness/health concerns... I think i'll be working on it and posting up soon.

      thanks for the rev!

This is not a concept it is a revolution

Most fascinating thing I have seen in a long time . You have managed very well IMO a subject that could attract ridicule although it is quite obvious that In the United States and Canada a "better solution"is needed. As for the art work Logo it is very affective and Imaginative . Cant help wondering if some doe heads may find it a little to phallic for there taste - however for me this entire idea and illustration is amazing.

Thanks for the review! We could use "A Better Solution" in the imaginary powerpoint sales pitch to the imaginary panel of government officials!

using psychology you should use the common bathroom symbolism of male/female bathroom characters somewhere in the logo or visual to prompt people to understand what this thing is very quickly and how it can help them do something. If its for an ad gimick and you want confusion than leave it like it is cause people will wonder what it is and be curious. However, confusion is not really a great strategy if you want people to know its a station to find a bathroom.

I still think the design is confusing to know this is a map system to find a bathroom and not a portable bathroom itself like someone mentioned.

So it needs to be clear WHAT this object is and how I can use it to accomplish a task or solve an urgent problem like "where is the nearest bathroom?". So far its a bit too subtle in design to get across its usability.

do a few more iterations and update the logo with some hints at the CONTEXT since urinal symbolism are not so easy to determine 20ft a way. Remember environment plays a large role in design too. You have to account for how far people are standing from it and what context they see it in and that they are not used to this type of device and what its used for. While the design is cute with urinals its not very usable or strong to prompt people for context at far distances or if its dark or foggy outside.

bathroom symbols would be stronger. ditch the urinals and replace with creative man and woman characters that look like u see on bathroom doors cause this will flop if you try to use symbolism different than symbolism the world is used to when looking for a bathroom.

      Thanks for the review.

Had it been a more serious exploration, or something I would be putting into production I would have used the global/universal iconography for restroom facilities as it would be more useful/understandable on a broad scale.

In this case, modifying an existing visual norm wasn't what I was interested in at this point and well... would feel typical.

To address your comment about about a map system or a "station to find a bathroom"... it isn't.

The "kiosk" designates an area of urination, there is no bathroom - it's like going behind a tree or in the alley near the dumpster but without the worry of getting a police citation - I wasn't clear enough in my description.

Gave me some good stuff to think about. Thanks.

    nothing. brilliant.

This is graphically brilliant. Quite a concept to work with. The practicality of it, of course, is sort of far fetched to me. But still a really clever idea.

Good start Jon. But I would design a kiosk which would facilitate an emergency bowl movement. Older folks would appreciate that. Then with the its expanded mission, it can become the Ministry of Feces and Urine. The kiosk could be marked "FU", an approiate message from a government agency to the populate.

A Ministry of Poop and Urine could show a "PU" sign which would probably reflect the reaction of people using the facility.

This is a wild idea and very Euro.

I think you could simplify the logo a bit more. Think the phone company Bell.

The name sounds like a bad heavy metal band. But, I like the approach.

The roll up card is awesome.

This could be a big winner or a big loser.

Keep thinking man. You will come up with a winner one day.

    Good luck!

Have you ever seen those Urination Jackets. I can't remember if I saw that on a "get your product patented" or something show or if it was in Wooster but this reminds me of that.

I would love these when my kids are having to go potty and there isn't one anywhere. Similar to those inflatable potties!

    Cute.

    The proportions look painful

Posted on Jan 08, 2010 at 3:57 PM

Nice Jon ; ) Perhaps the ministry logo could somehow be pissing away our tax dollars or something :D

The proportions between the M and the U bother me though. I like them, but it seems like it would be a painful situation if they were anatomically correct with relation to each other.

I think you're missing a couple parts on the U.

I love the cup. Handy when you don't have a beer bottle around.

    WHAT?!?!

Posted on Jan 08, 2010 at 2:24 PM

Are you kidding me, this concept is pretty out there. I won't discuss the actual purpose of this but the design could use a little help.

Your logo is far too literal. Make it more generic and less body part oriented. The unit itself isn't bad but again, I wouldn't make it yellow, too literal.

I'm not really sure what else to say with this besides the fact that it kind of grosses me out.

Nate, it's supposed to be out there because it would never exist... tongue in cheek man...

As for it being literal, well that was one of the self-imposed challenges of the experiment... I wanted to approach it from what a municipal government would create on their own with internal resources - which always end up being literal - and make fun of it... so I have to say, taking into account the feedback you have given... it succeeded

I think if the company you are designing it for is going for the fun, young market it would work. Myemma.com has a "personality" to them where they are fun and target the not to uptight personalities :)
