I think you have a good design here.
I think you lost something when you took out the big feature image -- but it might just be the size of your crop.
The background image seems a little distracting and takes away from your content. I might try some other options there.
I think you could use some separation between the 3 upcoming events. Maybe an HR or a border around the images. Something subtle, not glaring.
Nice Job!
I'm not that keen on the background, but the overall design is good. Looks more like a community/blogging site now.
A couple of pointers, add a slight gradient on the navigation, decrease thesize of the photos of the photographers, and maybe rotate them like you've done with the rest. Lastly the service section looks a bit lost in the content, try doing something with like like changing the background to white, text to the black.
Thanks Ivor, I will try a gradient on the navigation bar, but may not work well as I have a slightly different background colour on the link which you are on - may not be possible to see this from the image above as its big.
I will re-size the photographers and see how tat works out. I was thinking that just before uploading. Thanks again. Chris.
I think that you overall layout here is working. However, there are a few things that aren't working. The background texture feels a little random and isn't working very well. Your spacing in the logo area is also a bit tight. Lastly, your header image along with the main heading isn't working with the rest of the site. I think with a few changes this site could be up to speed very quickly.
Thanks Nate, now you've pointed it out, I can see the logo, and navigation bar is a bit tight. I will spread this out more. I'm going to remove the background texture. Chris.
Is nice, but doesn't quite match the rest of the colors, and the top is a little overblown, the side looks nice, though. I think if the top is reduced a little bit and there is less of a range of colors in the background, it'll work better.
Thanks Code. I'm going to remove the textured background, and I will have to adjust the coloured spots at the top I think when doing this for it to look right.
The shape of it draws my eye in a meandering way right over the nice big image - it is distracting. I like the idea of something back there but it needs a bit of refinement.
I like the restructured page and think it was a very good idea to remove the text from the image.
Nice...
I like that the images in the main body are no longer squished. Although arguably I'd make some of the more artisitc images bigger. I'm guessing this is a fixed width theme? Would it work a bit wider? The one in the right column looks a bit small.
The black on green menu is much nicer. The "welshot" in the logo I think stands out better when it's white rather than black.
I'd not make the portrait phots any smaller. Afterall this is a photography site.
I happen to like the background, but i think its a little too dark. I love the rainbowed dots.. because they play off of light and color (two things very related to photography) I would try and lighten the background though, because photography is all about light. You don't have to take it literally but I think it might brighten things up. Darker/gray background might look good on portfolio pages though, especially against black and white photos to stay neutral. But I think the layout has really been improved here. good job : )
Thanks Angie, I will remove the background texture and see how it is without it, and a HR between the events is a good idea.
