    Getting better

Posted on Jan 05, 2010 at 5:32 PM

I think taking out the shadows really helped here. I don't think you're quite there yet but think you're getting close. The navigation/logo area feels pretty unfinished still. i would maybe add a some sort of slogan to the right of the logo area. The navigation could use a bit more detail work. Try making the bar more glossy and round the corners off. In general the content area feels like there is a lot unused space. Try and tighten the spaces up where they are not needed. Your navigation on the image slider could be a better as well, not fond of the blue circles. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Nate, I will take on board your feedback and try and add those things in, the blue circles (yes come to think of it they look kinda odd)

      Cheers

    a stroke

Posted on Jan 05, 2010 at 6:41 PM

The nav seems too tall now, I like that the logo is on top, the older ones where the nav was on top or the nav was too far down didn't work. You could possibly even have the logo and nav on the same line and remove the background on the nav.

I think some elements can benefit from a stroke, may just be a personal thing, but everything feels flat and doesn't stick out on the gray background as well. The stroke can help stand things out.

To the right of "Aaran Casey" are some links, they seem too tall and underworked too. It may even look better if they're shorter and possibly don't come down all the way to the bottom in line with the larger left box. May look better if they're on the left in this case.

The footer I don't really know why there is a small triangle stick up from it on the right side. It seems like it's outside of the main width of the page and doesn't line up with anything. This is an area that I find a small stroke plus VERY slight inner shadow / glow can help ease the eye into the difference of a dark background and light. And by slight I mean you're doing the gradient in about 4 pixels or so.

Another thing I just saw, the "Aaran Casey" is in blue, then his title / position below is also in blue. It can sometimes have more impact if they're in different colors - My choice if I was designing this would be to make charcoal.

      Eric

Thanks that's a good review, I will have a look at the mentioned above and see what I can do make the changes!

      Cheers

    3 boxes toward bottom

A good improvement from the first version, but as others have noted it could use some more fine tuning. Try extending the gradient in the nav to at least the middle or add the same effect on the bottom of the nav to make it look rounded at the top and bottom.

I like the large center area with the team info, but I'd swap the blue font color for black or dark gray.

Since the top content area and middle content area is wrapped in white, I'd do the same for the trio of boxes above the footer.
