    looks good

Posted on Jan 02, 2010 at 4:01 PM

I think you've managed to make something that would relate to your target audience. The header looks good the way it is and the footer is working too.

Ideas for the middle would be to make it more rounded like the header. You could even remove the large blue box and have the content float on the white with accents of blue / green to pull important items out.

The o in host a party took me a while to read.

Thanks for the ideas. I've been playing with that some and like where I'm headed. Still some work to do, but I'm getting more ideas now! Thanks!

It's feeling better with the middle more filled in. I was thinking as I looked at it that maybe the size of the footer is a bit much? It could be shrunk down height wise, still have the same content, and won't stick out as much. Also, the columns of your middle section and footer don't really line up so it causes some disharmony visually.

More great feedback, thank you so much! I played some more both making the footer smaller and lining up the elements. Thanks again!

decide to keep the header clouds or footer clouds

Posted on Jan 02, 2010 at 7:38 PM

This is a nice design, the only thing that jumped out at me is that more than likely you'll have to scroll to get to the intro paragraph, have you considered an intro statement in the top content area? "A Party for Every Portrait" is a great tagline BTW but it took me a second to put "2 & 2 together" to figure out what the site does.

I like the big photo area and the footer is great, just needs to be tied into the header (or vice versa). Again, great job here, this is type of site that I usually respond favorably to.

I put some text up closer to the top, good tip. Probably not the text we will stick with, but my brain isn't working much anymore! Thanks for the great feedback!

Tie the style of the header and footer to the menu

Posted on Jan 03, 2010 at 8:18 AM

I think the design does a great job of communicating to the key audience. The color scheme is light and playful and the layout spotlights the most important information.

One thing I would change is the menu; although the menu in itself is nice, I feel like it doesn't tie in with the overall theme. Even with the matching colors, it seems more modern than playful.

I feel the changes to the menu could help tie the header and footer together to keep this design unified.

Ditch the photo slider or make it smaller...

Posted on Jan 03, 2010 at 1:38 PM

I think you need to get to the meat of the site sooner as you scroll down. Great art and very ncie looking. Is the Host a Party! image at top right clickable? Get the user to engage by making it an obvious button or link.

I'm not sure I successfully made the "host a party" button stand out enough....but I did ditch the photo slider. I think it looks much better being all text or all portfolio. Thanks for the great tip!

    maybe simplify the header design

Posted on Jan 03, 2010 at 5:01 PM

I really like this site! Its easy to browse through and the layout is very solid. However, I don't like the font used for the main navigation. Why not use the cursive font?

You did a great job on this! I really like it. I like the first footer. But I also see that your side bar has this big empty space cloud. I would put the social media icons up there so you can make the "subscribe to our newsletter" in 2 lines :)

    input field background

Posted on Jan 04, 2010 at 2:24 PM

This is a great design! The revised navigation is a great improvement from the original version. It now fits with the rest of the design.

I prefer footer option 1 since the photo in the bottom right balances the rest of the page. However, i would suggest changing the background color of the form field to white or tan so it doesn't dominate the space. Maybe it's me, but I am drawn to that dark blue bar before anything else int he footer.

    Good job!

Portraits overview in the first page

Posted on Jan 04, 2010 at 6:18 PM

Really great design! Hard to say something! Illustration, typographies so awesome!

I just think a picture (portraits) or two in the middle of the first page could be great for the understanding... I prefer the second footer, more organized for me. For logo, perhaps the monkey's tail could be play a little more bit with the typographie... To finish, I think menu on the left could be a little more reworked... (icons, for example?)

    Colors are nicely balanced.

Also on the current site how did you create that nice timer?

    Photos

Posted on Jan 06, 2010 at 1:28 PM

I think the front page is perfect, there is not a single thing I could think of that should be changed there. Just make sure to use sifr or cufon when creating the site, because else you won't really have any html text and that will give you an SEO problem.

On the gallery page however - I just don't think the photos look good in the context of this site. Each photo is beautiful per se, but especially b/w photographs need a darker background to really look good. Maybe you should just put links to different galleries on the page and let the actual photos open in one of those jquery lightbox apps.

I also don't think that b/w and color photographs should be mixed, they both look below optimum this way.

Still I gave it top ratings because the rest of the site is just so close to perfection for its purpose. Also dig the interim page you have online.

Connect the footer visually with the content area

Posted on Jan 02, 2010 at 5:09 PM

I like the header and there is opportunity for you to do a lot with the content area. The footer is too visually disconnected from everything else for me though. You could try to overlap the bottom of the content area with the cloud pattern of the footer. It is a good start.

It looks better now. I have one more small thing for you to try. Create a gradient between the white clouds and the blue content area to ease the transition. I like the nav that you added in the content area.

Good idea. There was one, but I think the fade was much too sharp and difficult to even tell it was there. I made it a smoother transition, I think. Thanks!
