    Line Break consideration.

Posted on Jan 02, 2010 at 11:56 PM

    Hi Chris,

I would like to say that overall your site looks great, professional and even a bit fun with how you treated your pictures as they fall into the slot. I like the colors used etc... I can tell that you have taken great care to track, kern, align and to keep consistency throughout your pages. There a just a few polishing items that you may want to consider looking at:

On your home page, your first few sentences have odd line breaks. ( I also noticed this on your about us page with your headlines.) Maybe by rewording or eliminating words you can keep the font size and have it read more smoothly by your viewers. For example, Jacksonville and Florida belong together, so when they have a line break between them it just feels odd. Such as the words "Social Networks" in the second sentence. (This is especially called for in headlines, unlike if just in a paragraph.) Also on the home page: The white flicker box with the dots does not align evenly on the left to the box below it. Under recent testimonials maybe try curly quotes for the pull quote title. The tape feels a bit off compared to the overall style of your website.

On your services page, It feels a bit odd to have your list items treated as though they are a sentence by using a period. Unless if you can somehow convert it so it reads as a sentence rather than a list with a period. Also on this page the bold white text " Need help choosing..." would read a lot smoother less bold.

Under your portfolio page some of your grey headings are off a bit to the boxes below when it comes to alignment, such as "Pro Technik."

I noticed that great care has been taken throughout your website to kern the letters in words. Yet one section has been completely overlooked: on your blog page subheadings "Recent Posts, Tweet Tweet and Facebook."

Thanks for the review Amy, this is by far the most thorough feedback we've gotten since we launched. I really appreciate your time, we're definitely going to include some of these points in future revisions.

      Hi Chris,

I'm really glad that you can use some of my review points. This morning I ventured further into your site to see some of DicoverTec employees and I noticed a big typography "no" and thats the single words left at the end of a paragraph. (It can be easily solved by adding more words or eliminating a word so it doesn't happen.) There are a few going on in the descriptions of the employees and thought it was important to point that out to you as well.

I promise to let you be now.

Nice to see something a bit different

Posted on Jan 03, 2010 at 5:10 AM

Very nice design overall, and although there are a lot of similar sites out there I love how you've used yellow for the main colour - I've hardly ever seen it used on sites and it's difficult to do well (in my experience anyway)

Thanks Jonathan, yellow is in our logo and we wanted to incorporate it on the site design, glad you liked it.

    Great start

Posted on Jan 04, 2010 at 7:54 AM

This is a very nice start, however it looks far too segmented for my taste. I would try and make the content area more simple and keep the focus on your header. Like I said, fantastic start, you just need to simplify, simplify, simplify.

Appreciate it Nate, we were concerned about our segmentation and we've talked about some mods to alleviate that. I'm with you on simplicity, it always seems we cram everything we can into the first pass and then pare down from there.

It's very clean and should bring you business. It's the kind of site people want, easy to read and navigate.

    Background

Posted on Jan 06, 2010 at 9:19 PM

Very nicely placed and organized. The Typography looks fine. The arrangement looks fine. Everything is great.

If there was 1 thing I would change though it'd be the background. Maybe even make it have a grainy look? Or a light fine texture?

I think texture is one of those visual elements that can really take a design to the next level and we thought we should revisit that. Thanks for the kind words Alex.

Use color scheme throughout all pages

Posted on Jan 02, 2010 at 5:04 PM

Pros: > The design is clean and purpose driven > Strong focal points leading the user through the experience > Well defined Sections

Cons: > I would like to see more information about your projects in your portfolio

    Overall a nice site.

Thanks for the review Ed, the one thing we all wanted to spend more time on is the port. so it looks like that's where we need to start.

    Great Job

Posted on Jan 06, 2010 at 12:03 PM

The design looks very professional. A very clean website, easy to navigate and easy to read. Well done. The only thing i could suggest is to spend some time on the flash animation and make it a little bit more dynamic.

Thanks Ivaylo, anything specific you could suggest to make the flash more dynamic?
