something great about special event planning, is the beautiful printing that you can frequently find.. invitations, placeholders, menus, programs. It would be interesting to see any of your design printed on paper, and photographed and utilized... get "Dishy" printed out and engraved! would look beautiful and would speak for what you're doing. the scrap booking tabs at the bottom of the page are a really nice touch.. it would be great to see everything fitting into this format.. like it might actually exist in a scrap book.. i would be very excited to see this instead.. i think you've got a great start here.. make it happen in a physical setting and then bring it back to digital.. no harm in trying...
there is also a weird water wave on your main page there.. not really sure how this fits into your concept. put photos and information on a dish!? just have a pretty white plate that all of this content fits onto... might look lovely. moral of my rant: push the boundaries of the digital web design
Also.. a more formal font for "Dishy" might serve you better... try: Bickham Script Fancy, or look up others that might look less handwritten and more precise. i hope this helps!
Nice design! It's simple, professional, and makes good use of headings. I like the logo, the holders at the bottom of the pictures, the plate, and the headings.
I think the site could use a bit more color. For instance, the small icons next to recent event and from the blog could be colored. Also, I think the icons/graphics for the different packages should have some differences other than scale. Maybe adding an extra leaf for each package (at the least).
I'm also a little confused with the different navigation treatments. On the services page, the about us is highlighted and stands out more than the underlined services link. Is the about us a roll over state? I think you should combine the roll over and the active states in this case. Some subtle nav dividers could also enhance the page.
Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate the color suggestion and agree.
Yes, the av on the services page is there to represent the hover states. Clearly you looked this over closely!
i think the image needs to be on top so someone get right away what the company is and do.
but over all like the design.
Thanks for your feedback Julio. I designed the homepage to be 100% above the fold, so hopefully this is accomplished on the homepage. I'll consider you feedback however.
It is a nice clean site design. The one thing that bothers me is that there is not an element that ties the header to the footer. Visually the focus is pulled to the footer and there is nothing that brings the eye back up to the top of the page. I do like yout image selection and the over all feeling of the site so far.
I think overall this is a great site. It's very creative in both the design and details such as "big dish little dish"
The only thing I would play with is some very light textured pattern in the background instead of that sterile gray. Maybe even a low opacity damask or something. On longer pages it stands out too much.
Bet the client loves it though!
Yeah, that part of the design is jumping out for me too, thanks for you feedback.
This is a very clean design, that has some personality. The wave look on the bottom is great, everything seems to flow. My eye, as a designer, immediately gets drawn to the bottom of the grey background. It just...stops. I would play with other solutions? I noticed the fine line that borders the top and the left, maybe continue that around the entire box?
This works pretty well for your purposes. I'm not a HUGE fan of the footer. I feel like I want it to be all right aligned since there is nothing else center aligned. The dishes on the inner pages are a bit overdone I think. Other than that, I think you have a nice site here.
Thanks for our feedback Nate, I will take your comments into consideration.
I LOVE this... even from the weekly update email this grabbed my attention!
One thing to consider is pulling in more color-- perhaps changing the background color from gray to a tiffany blue.
It'd also be nice to see more elements of "planning" in the footer images-- like a calligrapher's pen on stationary or a banquet table setting.
Again this is FABULOUS!
We are working on better images, these are just placeholders Thanks for your feedback.
I think that you use so cool colors ..
and it's look fine to me :)
I think the first poster said it best. Simple, clean, elegant site. some repetitive imaging and and the focus on bouquets is not that the site is really about, but for this type of site, I think you really hit the right colors and theme.
The site is nice and clean and well thought out . But the first thing that hit me was ....will you get away with that Logo? Its awfully reminiscent or as my teacher would say "not long Dishy"
Im thinking the D is what got me thinking. Did you check out the font below it looks really good IMO.
Dishy, love it don't change it!
Very nice design Robin! I love the way how you used the images above the footer. Really don't have any good advice on how to improve this design. Thumbs up.
Pleasant and neat blog design.
the grey background cut at the later part or u could have extend upto where ur base template ends...
Just great. The wave is really nice. Icons are great.
You've clearly done this before ;)
Cheers
Gorgeous looking blog. Pro look. But why do so many great designers use grey text on white?
I think you have a good point about the text - it could probably stand to be a bit darker - however in some designs I feel like straight black is a bit too much and takes away from the design. Notice the text on this site is not black!
Very smart design, you really nailed the theme here. I'd like to see more color, but it still works as is. I like call-to-action buttons and wouldn't mind seeing one or two incorporated here. Nice work.
Nice one Bickham.
