    too far out there

When I think of logos I usually think of something a lot cleaner. There are a lot of really small areas at the ends of the letters that would not reduce well if you ever needed to print this on something small.

I went to your site and was reminded of the movie 300 how the word is really tore up and gory, but I do like how you made use of the logo on the really dark background.

My suggestion would be to maybe tone down the font some so it's not so rugged, make it darker with some cyan, and maybe use a brushed steel / metalic look instead of the ... well I can't describe the current texture.

I think the 5 can really be played with a lot for your logo, I've always liked the number in designs.

I will clean it up, you're probably right about printing.

Thanks for going to the site, but that's still the old version. Because of the gory look (I didn't notice before someone pointed me to it) I made this version. The use of the background is just a quick work, nothing that's meant to be in the final website. Thanks again for taking the time to look at the website, but for now I just want to improve the logo.

I will try a brushed metal look but I fear it won't fit. The texture now is supposed to look like it was painted in loose paint strokes like the logo itself. A metallic look wouldn't support that kind of image.

    too detailed/messy

Posted on Dec 29, 2009 at 11:01 PM

Logos tend to be clean cut, easy to remember, and very importantly easy to reproduce and print. This logo, if put it on business cards or print it to something smaller than a full page, would lose its detail and its overall impact, despite the vectors and high resolution.

Also, the color scheme just doesnt work too well with most background colors other than the two you have here. Many color shades would be lost on printing or lost to the eye when put in context with other things on a web page or something similar.

Would probably work well on a very large banner or an epic-looking flash site, but not in the average use of logos.

I thought that this kind of style would be more eye-catching, but you're right, it's too complex for small sizes.

      I'll think of something simpler.

      Thanks for your feedback!

    Style and Use

Posted on Dec 30, 2009 at 9:36 AM

I think you are trying to get too much out of the logo. The logo must be usable and readable.

If you really want a grunge feel such as this, try using it in other designs such as web headers, brocure covers, business card textures, etc...

I am not a designer but come from marketing & usability thinking.

It shows what you mentions in your text. You want to create something that says I'm not bound to any norm. To follow all the design rules you will end up with something that follows the design norms then it will not be what you ultimately want.

When I look at it I see someone who does not care what other think and just does what he want. Unique and original in thinking but does not care either way. Words that come to mine in --underground, not bothered by others, say what you want...

    It looks find to me.

Thanks very much for your comment, I was pretty discouraged after all the negative feedback.

I DO want to set myself apart from easier logo's but I'm concerned about usability, especially printing.

      What do you think?

Eric Buchmann mentioned that your logo reminds him on the 300 move and I agree with him. If they are able to make a logo like this that prints then you can see what you can gather from that.

Try it out Eir's suggestions & post some ideas for us to see with printing in mind.

In terms from a non graphic designer of myself I feel that it ways what you want from it.

Good point with 300, I didn't think of that before.

Thanks for taking the time, I will refine it when I get the time.

    Colors look muck better

Colors aren't a horror show anymore, good work. It is yet to be determined if this actually works as a logo but I think it should, good work.

    In context with work

Posted on Dec 27, 2009 at 11:42 AM

Gets to a point with me where I have to see it in context.

I can see this really working in highly pictorial magazine type sites (I guess Flash) not so much on a xhtml text typography type or any formal structure in my opinion that's where we have to go know into the ring so to speak.

I intended a kind of painterly and loose (highly pictorial, like you said) style for the website too, but not realised in Flash. It would probably work better in Flash but personally I don't like Flash websites.

    Nothing

Posted on Dec 27, 2009 at 5:26 PM

Looks great man, but you might want to clean up some of the extra pixels outlining the 5 and F especially as they'll only really make sense on the web.

Yeah, you're right. I made it in such a high resolution that I didn't realize that they would look like stray pixels in a small scale.

      Thanks for the advice!

    A logo is your extension.

What kind of designer are you? A grafiti or an illustrator. If so, then this might me OK. If not, you should seriously consider a different approach.

I think you should consider something that is more like a logo - this will not work well in small sizes.

    Looks Dirty

I liked it but... it gives a grungy look, if u aimed something like that, then this is really gud, but u can work on it more for some more outputs. A suggestion
