    The Header

Posted on Dec 19, 2009 at 5:36 PM

The layout of the header section seems really awkward. You have a large amount of real estate dedicated to the header but not much going on in it.

My recommendation would be to extend the navigation accross the entire banner (so the navigation is a full strip with the same width as the banner). And push the logo up a bit to make space for the navigation to run across.

I think your design has some potential. Maybe experiment with the background abit as well. I have made this quick mock up of what I have been talking about in this review:

    Hope this helps.

    Usability of ?

Posted on Dec 20, 2009 at 6:11 AM

I'm not sure how it's - if even - possible to check 'usability' by looking at screenshot of a website, anyways the background colour, the green part, should be a little darker, also the footer needs some more padding.

Color palette is a little strange...

Posted on Dec 20, 2009 at 1:41 PM

I am assuming the magenta on the navbar pill is an activation color (i.e., a mouseover?) If so, the color, the shape and the gradient are a little out of place as everything else is somewhat flat (which is fine for a corporate site) and nothing else on the page is that same color.

If "home" is an active link, I'm not sure why it's a different color from "read more." Though many sites don't do this, using the same color scheme for links helps users know what is clickable without having to run their mouse over everything.

I'm also not sure why "read more" is a slightly different color from the footer?

I also find the four colors of the Custom Templates logo a bit jarring (i.e., too many colors, some are so close that they are almost the same but not quite, seems unbalanced).

CHOOSE US and WHAT WE DO are almost the same size as the logo type which makes for a difficult information hiearchy... maybe bring them down a few points so it's more obvious that those are headers and not the page title? The blue bullets aren't really necessary and add more color confusion. Also, CHOOSE US and WHAT WE DO could use a little more left padding. And this is a little hard to do in web design, but it would help make the page look more solid if the text in the CHOOSE US and WHAT WE DO columns were baseline aligned. Are they also different point sizes?

Anyway, most of that stuff is very nitpicky. Your design is fairly solid and that's why it's easier to see the tiny tweaks that would make it look more professional.

This might of been an exceptional design...

Sorry Alex, this is all wrong the stock imagery is bad, the menu / navigation is old scholl and the colours are conflicting... The logo (looks like miami vice (in a bad way)

the background is flat... the colours just strike me as odd...

I would suggest that you research templates houses/websites, and look at it again.

This is not meant to be mean, just realistic critiscism.

    Good luck!

    Colors and Size

Posted on Dec 21, 2009 at 2:40 AM

Its sort of really scatered together. I dont like the background. The Typography needs work. The Purple Roll over doesn't look to good. What we do portion is to spaced out.

If you run out of room when you first make the document. You should always make a new one so everything doesn't look so crammed like this.

    Colors, colors, colors

Posted on Dec 21, 2009 at 7:40 AM

The colors are really working against each other here. They don't go well together and clash in some cases. The layout also seems too boxy and simplistic. The headers and typography in general is a bit lacking as well. I would try and rethink this design all together in order to get the best final result

    looks good

Posted on Dec 19, 2009 at 10:54 AM

the purple button seems out of place. and the white space above the navi bar can be used better. pull up the site a bit or use the space in that box better. its good to have white space but white space on the top feels like the whole site is pushed down a bit.

and if this a sample site it looks great but "simplifying office tasks" seems squashed. increase the height of the lettering so that i reads clearer.

enough bad... great use of the green in the background extending from the image. perhaps you can even incorporate that green to connect through the image in the form of a thin line behind the people to pull the two rectangles together.

is the background textured? increase the pattern a tiny bit so that the texture reads a little bit.

    other than that... looks great.

    The upper banner

Posted on Dec 19, 2009 at 12:31 PM

I think that if the white part on the top could be in all over the space. Put the blank area to fill all the grey part in the upper part.

I think that the color of the button in the menu ins't good. Maybe if you just put a square in white green behind or a light grey could work better.
