id throw another contrasting color in there. perhaps black for the secondary headings? (ie career education etc) and maybe continue that background pattern further down to make it more visible?
Maybe don't to much using glow or blur, and give your picture. Basically, i like your style. Nice
Thanks, Gia. I was recommended NOT to put a picture or address on my resume. Of course, that's assuming you mean a picture of myself, and not, well, a generic picture of something else, like a portfolio piece.
This is a beautiful design Carlin. it's a great twist on resumes without going over the top. I would make the drop shadow behind your name a little smaller and I am also not quite sure what the background image is so I question whether you need it or not. Great work, I think this should land you a job at some point.
Thank you, Nate! I will play with the drop shadow and see what it looks like without the logo's tail.
I like it :) But as was already said by Ryan ... add darker color for secondary headings ..
Luke
Either make the headlines a bit lighter or much darker, they look now as though they were a little darker than the rest of the text and that does not look so good...or then it is just the pda i am using...
I think this is a good resume, if you have good work cases with it I think the employers will surely think of you.
When I first saw this, my eyes didn't know where to start reading. This problem might be remedied if you increased the line height and darken the text. Other than that, I like this a lot.
Thanks, CodeDude. I see what you mean. I guess the problem I run into is a space issue. I really don't want to go to 2 pages for all the content. I will definitely darken the text, though.
And should actually list your accomplishments at each company, not your duties. Let your prospective employer now how you are going to make them more money.
Group all your high-profile clients under their own heading and make that one the first things they read. Skills should be closer to the top, education closer to the bottom.
And get rid of the fuzziness around the text. It won't print that well anyway.
Thanks, Adam! Could you give me an example of what you mean by accomplishments? I'm think that you mean something along the lines of hard facts (ie, created flyers for an event that had record attendance, etc). Not sure if I would be able to get those from past employers, if they existed.
I haven't done any work for high-profile clients just yet, as I just graduated a few months ago. I think I'll have a look around the net at other designer's resumes and see if I can figure out what the best order is to put the content.
I really like the idea. It sets you apart. The only thing that would bother me from a readers standpoint is the diagonal text.
I think you have a great idea, literally putting your own spin on your resume. One comment-- At first glance (and remember some people only spend 3-5 seconds looking at a resume) my eyes have trouble finding specific information. Since your titles like "education" are capitlized along with your subtitles like "AKS" they seem to fight eachother. Even though there is a size and boldness difference, I would consider giving some of the titles a pop color. (a bold color, like a red) That way, if an employer wants to scan your resume and quickly find "Experience" it'll pop right out at them.
Thanks Holly and Tiffany for your feedback and suggestions.
Holly, I see your point. I think that having the text on a diagonal is both a good and bad thing, for separate reasons. I'm going to take a risk and keep it diagonal (it is only 15 degrees, after all) because I think if I take out that aspect it might lose some dynamism.
Tiffany, great suggestions. It seems to be a common suggestion to make the sub-titles more bold. I will definitely do this for the second draft. Thanks for the comment!
If another color was to be added I would consider the headers. Some of the type seems fuzzy to read. I would not keep an all caps header and then all caps underneath it. Change it up to revamp the heirarchy or the type.
Really sweet idea all in all.
as suggested by others i too feel u need to change the heading color too darker shade of grey rest is cool....and yes do increase the line height a bit..
The drop-shadow on your name looks WAY to heavy.
Thanks, M. Unfortunately, I wanted to keep my name in white letters, and in order for it to be visible at all, I need a heavy drop shadow. I shrank it a lot, but it doesn't strike me as too heavy. That might be because I'm on a brighter monitor, though.
Thanks, Ryan. I have a lighter blue (kind of electric) in my logo. I may just try that.
