Needs a lot of improvements or start over?

Hello, my review will probably hurt You, but it is reason why You added your site here, to get an opinion of others.

I think, that this design needs really a lot of improvements. This layout is not providing an easy survey. If someone would ask me for my tip, when this site was designed, I would tell him probably year 2001. When I first saw this page I got lost on it and left after 15 seconds of some browsing, because I was not sure where to click.

It would need complete redesign (probably including logo) to get some serious interest of the users.

Anyway concept of whole project seems to me also not too well choosen. Mostly Less mean more ... and this is also reason why I think, that You cannot beat (or be an serious comptetitor) for other portals like facebook or for example eBay (I saw that you have also auctions there) - I am saying this because of Your title: "Next Big Thing after Facebook" ... for one simple reason: Your competitors are focused for a one specific field and they can give a huge support for it and improve the service regullary. Other thing is, that users do not get lost on ther website, because they came to them for a specific reason, not to have everything on a one page with 2 miles long main menu. And I am also affraid that Your project could die just because You will not be able to support whole thing, after couple of months...

If I would be at Your position, I would read something about UI, UX, latest web design trends and start over with the new design. If You will decide for redesign, focus on one (beyond of other stuff) probably biggest mistake of this design: huge spacing among the layout elements and also work more with colors (for example the background on current site is really bad and does not correspond with the rest of the site).

This is really nothing personal against you, just my opinion and my best recommendations for Your project. I wish that You will improve it and it will become to another good player on the social networking field ... than I will join Your network ;)

    Best Luke

I want to be completely hones here and say that this site needs to be redesigned. There are a lot spacing, alignment, color and general design issues. I think you would benefit the most from starting from scratch and creating something entirely new. Hope that helps and doesn't discourage, let me know if you have any questions.

    Rework the site.

    Sorry if this sounds harsh...

I think your site is lacking numerous things that it needs to be successful design wise.

There is no visual hierarchy. The first thing I noticed when I saw your site was the "Nobody does Easter like Jelly Belly." That's probably not the first thing you want your viewers to notice. The reason I noticed it first is because it is more colourful than the rest of the content on the site, and it is also much larger.

There are way too many navigation options. I would simplify your navigation greatly (use sub-menus, if necessary). You also have two navigation bars. Which one do you want people to use?

Visually, the site strikes me as a little bit bland. It is very monochromatic (that is, one colour). This isn't always a bad thing, but you can really accentuate certain areas of the page if you dip in a colour that contrasts with the dark blue you've chosen. I don't think the yellow in your logo is enough.

If you want to compete with Facebook and MySpace, you have to take a look at what makes them successful and try to emulate that, or surpass it. Both sites have pretty simple layouts and don't bombard the user with content.

I like your ideas for the site; you're kind of combining the best of all worlds into one site.

The idea is there, but I think you need to re-work the site and view it more from a design perspective.

    Hope that helps!

    General motivation

Posted on Dec 10, 2009 at 2:58 AM

The greatest weakness to your application is that there is no general motivation for public traffic. Your friends might like it for 5 minutes. But there is nothing else that might imply as to whom this web site is directed toward. For obvious reasons you can't include everybody in your demographic while standing in the shadow of Facebook, etc. So the first thing you need to do is find a theme.

Secondly, you need to find a better social networking application or hire / meet with a programmer to customise a project for you. Because these static, bland versions of social reference points are just sad and ultimately fault to complacency and killing creativity.
