i like the design cause it is serious, match to the context and looks good but there are some big mistakes.

1) navigation is very small and bring it in vertical center 2) the line-space in the welcome box is a little bit too much 3) bring more withe space to the block's under the welcome area, the pix match to the topic but they are too big and the user is focus on it and not on the text 4) the footer is really small and must be placed a little bit more left (one line with logo and text)

The black and white scheme is sleek and professional. The black and white photos add a nice touch.

The justified text in the columns is hard to read. I'd add more padding to each of the columns to differentiate them a bit more. Also, put a little more spacing between the column title and body text.

Looks great so far, just a few changes I would consider. The "home" and "contact" buttons look a bit out of place. Maybe them look like they are part of the design instead of an afterthought. Also, the logo needs more space. Put some padding on the top and bottom of the logo. Other than that, I think this site is looking great!

The images look great in the "stack" style but I would make them half again as big
