Early on I was captured by the simple elegance of the Martha Stewart movement/school . I had never seen a cinnamon stick and a candle transformed into a life style statement before I was in awe.

Many times since then I have tried to capture simple elegance and understated style and came to the conclusion that it was a talent a little out of reach.

I think this site captures many aspects of modern "magazine goes web" And therefore humbled I would not change a thing.

if i could change 2 things, put more lively texture on the top menu bar, and maybe a border or bg for the table for categories

    Hard to day

Posted on Dec 06, 2009 at 9:51 PM

I have to say this is quite a simple design but I think it works because the simpleness and lack of color in the content area allows for the product images to really stand out. I may not know the objectives of your client but I think this design will get her sales. :)

However, I would like to suggest adding a few unobtrusive graphical elements to make the site a bit more interesting.

They are all pillows, after all

Posted on Dec 07, 2009 at 12:33 AM

Since very few of them step outside of the standard square pillow shape, perhaps this might be a worthwhile idea to pursue: the thumbnail should show the pattern that goes on the pillow rather than the pillow itself.

Also, dimensions would be useful in the product description (I'm going by what's online now), including thickness.

That would definitely make it look more uniform. Thanks!

    Very nice

Very nicely done. I like how you balanced out the busy and bold header and footer with the simple content layout. I'm not sure you need the pink footer.

    Just one little thing

Posted on Dec 07, 2009 at 9:17 AM

Very simple and efficient design! That helps a lot the interface readability. I would change the type font in the left navigation. You definitely should try some san-serif typography. I can see your intention here but it just seems like seriffed fonts don't work on vertical menus :)

    try removing the outlines

Posted on Dec 07, 2009 at 10:27 AM

Hi Jeff, i think this is looking quite nice so far. I was thinking that removing the boxes around the pillows might help improve, you would have to align the text below to the edge of the pillow, and i agree with Ovi about adding the dimensions, because it is hard to tell how big the pillows are.. but i wouldnt turn the pattern into only a swatch.. i like seeing the pillows on the white background. nice job getting them on photographed and available on white! i know thats a struggle. I actually like the serif font on the right top nav. it might look good in lowercase too.. did you try that? i think it looks good as is.. a fabric texture would be good to apply to the pink on the header and footer. the site is very fabric rich, might be good to make the design match. beautiful job so far, keep going! :)

    Sort by price

Posted on Dec 08, 2009 at 7:44 PM

Very clean and simple design, I like it.

    1) I agree with some of the previous comments of adding more details on pillow sizes.

    2) Also along the lines if you have the info on material. Cotton, polyester etc. For people who care about it, it may be useful.

    3) Not sure if the borders around the boxes are going well with images of pillows. If it were a pattern, a defined box would be great. I'd try seeing how it looks without the border since all pillow images are gonna be same size so it would look uniform.

    4) Didnt get the distinction b/w the green price and the red ones. Are red ones on sale or on discount and green the regular price?

    5) Is it possible to have a functionality to sort results by price?

    6) The topmost section that has an image of Irelan Pillows - while thats engaging, I'm wondering if you could make a better use of that space by showcasing a few Featured pillows or most bought/popular pillows.

it's really gorgeous. the colour chosen for the site works so well with the warm colours found in most of the products.

The pattern in the top menu bar

Posted on Dec 13, 2009 at 11:01 AM

Overall, this just works. I feel like the pattern in the top bar just isn't really doing anything for the site. I think it's because it's too big. I think you need something with a bit of a smaller pattern.

I really love the overall look though! I would buy pillows from this site!
