The design of this app isn't consistent enough. You have several different design directions her within one app. Try and follow the illustrated design that you have going more. Work on the consistency.
Hi Mike! Interesting concept and I think it might be fun to try. My concern is mostly with the illustration and the inconsistent UI design.
You seem to be mixing 3 styles of buttons, backgrounds, etc. I would stay consistent and pick the silver one. Looks the cleanest.
The silver box behind the buttons on the home screen is a relic from the old design. I tried some other things behind those home screen buttons but didn't like any of them as much... I'll keep experimenting though.
Whilst the others have said that the main screen needs to be reworked to suit the rest of the interface but I feel that its the rest of the interface that needs the work.
This game is about pulling faces, being silly and having fun. The first screens suggest exactly that. The actual interface in game actualy feels very opposite of this.
Your graphical style in your interface needs to evoke the emotions that you are trying to get in the users. You want them to have fun and be in a silly mood whilst playing this game.
I think that you have a really solid game concept. It would definently be worth investing some time (or money) into getting the interface looking fun.
I like the interface a lot, but the main menu, the main picture (and the logo) just don't seem to give me the same feeling towards the game as the actual interface does. By looking at the main menu's screenshot, I thought the game was gonna be... well, I didn't think it'd be that good. But when I saw the game's screenshots, I loved it, and I felt: Wow, I want to play this game. Have you considered giving the main menu a similar look to the game's interface? (the brown box, or just the same blue pattern background below the brown box - it seems to look better than the one on the actual main menu)
Other than that, the interface looks modern, in my opinion, and looks very intuitive (From the screenshots, I can tell what I would have to do to use it and play the game properly). The one on the right (which I assume to be the new one) looks much more sophisticated, and certainly much more attractive. Incredible work! :)
Thanks for the feedback! I see what you mean about the difference in feel on the home screen, I will play with it some more. I had considered putting the logo on a cardboard box, so that it looks more like a game board, but didn't want the homepage to get too cluttered, or add elements for no reason. I'll try it though, as well as using the darker halftone, and see how it feels. Hopefully we can get it into the App Store before Christmas yet! :)
Good luck with that, Mike :) I hope you'll post any updates to the concept here, so we can review them :)
This is a really cool concept, but the graphics you've submitted for the main screen just don't seem to fall in line with what people would expect given the rest of the interface. I would consider re-doing this part of the app.
Thanks for the comment! I will be playing with the home screen some more, as noted in my comment to Bruno. Should have a revision up soon!
Good job!
The idea is very well! But you should work more on details.. Take a loot at great iPhone app calld "Awesome Note" and notice how many design details is there...
i can see that you have two overlapping retro dots and as a result your main page suffers from it..just look at that in the lower right of the main page.....everything else is coool! i wonder if you submitted this game already..^_^
I did submit the game with a few minor changes from this revision. More design changes may come in future versions, but I wanted to get the game in the store for Christmas (and I just barely made it... Christmas Eve!) so that people could try out the Christmas list. You can see it in the app store here: http://weheartgames.com/getfacerace/
As others have mentioned, the main page doesn't jive well with the actual interface used throughout.
Otherwise looks promising.
great idea
Thanks, I can see what you mean... some illustrated elements, some photo-realistic elements and some photoshop elements... I'll refine and post a revision.
