I like this one a lot more.

Posted on Nov 15, 2009 at 7:39 AM

The whole thing looks chunkier and softer, it's a lot more engaging.

The smoke heart works so much better smoothed out and thickened and the colour makes the whole thing looks much warmer.

    Nice :)

It's good, but a little rough still. Is the saucer necessary?

I didn't even notice the heart of steam until I read Gemma's post. What could you do to make it more noticeable, but not out-right obvious?

I noticed the heart of steam pretty quickly. But to push it a little more you could make the colors of the steam closer in values. (a red and a warm orange for example). I like that the bottom logo has the saucer it looks more finished. If you added the saucer to the top version I think either logo will work.

    Better...

Posted on Nov 16, 2009 at 1:52 AM

The flow is better with the steam moved.

Since I saw the cup w/ and w/o saucer. I like it with. the cup now "sits" on the saucer.

The steam does need softening. But I like the wood cut/chunky feel of the piece. So maybe it is removing the outline. That is a good idea.

To me it is the words blink... could they wrap slightly around the cup. It feels stuck on.

It would need to be subtle to pull it off. It may not work.

    Very nice.

the colour of the saucer and the cup

If the saucer is necessary, i would suggest to use a different colour for the saucer. It looks a bit heavy on the bottom.

Totally agree with this as well. I think the one thing thats holding it back is the saucer needs to be a lighter color so it is less noticeable and not as chunky. Warm cream color? A soft grey? Play around with it! Good job!

Only things I would try changing are making the text a little bolder, and maybe just use flat colours rather than the slight texture you've got going on... I may be wrong though :)

i like it with the saucer

Posted on Nov 17, 2009 at 10:18 AM

If without the saucer, i think you will have to flat the bottom part of the cup, making it lose the touch of casual-ity that rounded corners/smoke give.

Left-leaning smoke and right ear cup gives enough balance for symmetry.

Color is absolutely relate-able to coffee, relax and hang out time.

    Great execution, vague purpose

Posted on Nov 18, 2009 at 6:10 PM

I REALLY like this just because it looks so cool, but it's very cryptic. Like what on earth is "blink" all about and what does it stand for? And ever more curious is what does "blink" have to do with the coffee and heart?

But the illustration is just crazy sweet, and the thing would look great without even having a word on it.

    The saucer

Posted on Nov 19, 2009 at 3:53 AM

I do like the design, but like others have already said, I'm not sure about the saucer. It makes it too heavy, and with the detail of the steam at the top as well, the name gets kind of lost.

Of course I understand where you're coming from! Is there a way you could bring the focus back to the typography? I like how it looks like it's written in chalk, similar to a cafe's menu or specials board, but it still seems a bit lost to me, if you get what I mean. Like I said before though, I do like the overall design :)

I think this logo will work large, on a website. But small on a business card might look muddy. I might loose both the cup and saucer. You probably didn't pick the name but the word "blink" for coffee ... I really don't make the connection.

    softer font

Posted on Nov 19, 2009 at 3:12 PM

Overall...I really like the design, I like the changes you have made so far as well by making it softer with more color. The two things that I could be nit-picky about is; you could lose the saucer which someone mentioned as well, and the font could be a softer font, but still have the "k" have a swoop. I really like the design, but that's my $0.02 - good job!

    Font

Posted on Nov 21, 2009 at 5:44 PM

I say keep the saucer. without it the coffee cup is less obviously a coffee cup. I think the handle looks a little dinky for the size of the cup, give me something to hold on to.

I LOVE the steam, the two different colors/sizes give each side it's own personality. Looks like a couple snuggling, and I easily see the heart.

I'm not crazy about the font, it doesn't seem to match the rest of the design, maybe loose the serifs and make a little more curvy or bubbly... the one swirl on the end is enough. But if you take that one swirl on the "K" away, the font makes me think of Blink 182... and it really makes me wonder what the coffee shop has to do with Blink.

I really like this, however i feel the cup and saucer lack some definition. I would add some dark brown-black around the right side of the cup and saucer to add some dimensionality.

I don't see anything that ties the name to the design concept, but i also feel that it communicates the right message: A cozy cafe.
