Try how it looks if the saucer was lighter brown, about the same as the cup. I don´t think it´s too clip arty, I think it´s naive in a nice way.

It looks very good, what I would work on is the hearts shape and the smoke ..make it smoother. ...maibe some shadow under the dish.

I understand the brown colour to coffee relationship, but dark colours like this come off as masculine, and in this particular case the strength of the colour is fighting with the swirly hearts. I would experiment with more welcoming colours. I would agree with Nate's opinion about the saucer and the smoke, too. I think you could simplify this logo further. Maybe try tying the name into the design more. Overall though, you're on the right track, and it does say cafe.

I like the concept here, I think it works well for you purpose. I would lose the saucer and make the smoke the same color as the saucer. The lines could also use some smoothing out, the smoke looks very jagged. Good start though, your on the right track.
