    Way too trippy

Posted on Nov 12, 2009 at 9:37 AM

This design makes my eyes hurt. There are too many curves and straight lines. It makes me feel like I'm hyped up on some sort of drug. I would stick with doing straight lines. The rest of the design is pretty good. The shadows are a bit much so I would back them up a bit as well. Good start, just make it less trippy.

Glad it gave you a bit of a buzz, haha!

I liked that the curves gave it a bit of depth, rather than boring default boxes - but point taken I'll try it straight.

      Thanks v. much :)

I like the curves but its to much! I think when you make the header and "request a phone call"just a normal box it looks much better. You still have the "designey" then but on a good way :)

And i think you need a good look @ the content and the line the thinks out. (use a grid)

    Hierarchy

Posted on Nov 14, 2009 at 3:20 PM

I feel as if the navigation bar has the top hierarchy. 3D pop is good, but more empasis needs to be drawn towards the logo and then to the tagline

    Bkg., color lighter.

Hi Ben, I think this is better than the last version. I feel the cube is fitting to m3. I think it would be great to have the little cube spin and when it spins it reads the heading and presents new type. It saves space is fitting and keeps it clean.

If this site had nothing to due with "cubed" then it would be a "show off." yet, it has to due with cube so why not have some fun integrating it in their site. Right?

    I like it.

    not much

Posted on Nov 15, 2009 at 3:15 AM

This is a definite improvement over its predecessor.

I'm really enjoying he inspiration gathered from the lighting-blend used in the footer.

The only thing I would change, or at least consider changing, is the menu. Maybe use an actual photograph of a server tower or iPhone(WT!?); Or just bump up the realism in the menu's framework with gradients (I'd like to see a stainless steel brush stroke used?).

    Good work

    curved lines

Posted on Nov 12, 2009 at 10:02 AM

As Nate already mentioned, to many curved lines. Looks more like a personal portfolio site than construction industry. Straighten the curves, rotate the menu-cube so that it faces the content of the page and make it smaller and this will look a lot better. (I´m not saying that it looks bad now, it just needs to be redone a little..)

Agree - it needs to look a lot more 'construction industry' ish.

Just clarify, you mean flip the menu cube 180? Sounds like a good call.

      Thanks yet again!

Yes, I mean that either rotate the cube 180 degrees or flip it horizontally. So that it "looks at the page content".

    Less 3D...

Posted on Nov 12, 2009 at 11:18 AM

It looks too much like "Look what I can do with 3d objects and shadows". Depth is good in a website, but too much can be overwhelming and come off as cheesy.

I do like the color scheme and use of lighter gradients as well as your white space. Mix this with your earlier layout and see what you come up with.

seriously, this is painful on the eyes

Posted on Nov 12, 2009 at 11:46 AM

I would remove the 3d elements or make them pointed directly at the person looking at the screen. to put it bluntly, it looks like the website has been warped at some parts.

You should also know that your logo will not be readable at low sizes.

I like having the contact details clearly shown at the end of content.

However, people tend to look for the phone no in the top right. Do you think both is overkill?
