Nice design, typos and pictures are well managed
I like the design overall. I would change the color of the bar to something that stands out a bit more, such as a red or orange. Make the logo quite a bit smaller and make "lunch menu" stand out less. Otherwise, it's a fun menu, good work.
You're right about the bar. I'll try a rich, dark red to go with the colors in the restaurant. I'll try your other suggestions too ... thanks!
Since the overall feel of the artwork is historical, I think the photos are vital. They tie the client into the subject matter more vividly. Plus- the photos themselves are great, and very appetizing!
I like the red, don't put a highlight behind the logo. Put the "lunch menu" verbiage in the light red on top of the dark red. Otherwise, it is looking good.
Nate
Good point about the historical nature of the menu. I'll definitely go with the photo version, that way I won't have to use leaders (I think they're ugly).
I like your idea about putting the "lunch menu" on the lighter red, I'll give it a try.
Love the menu with the photos incorporated. Great job
I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not to include the photos. I did a photo shoot specifically for this menu but my client is not too sure about using the photos now that she's had a chance to see them in the menu. Thanks for your opinion, it helps a lot!
Red represents joyful and happiness in Chinese culture. So, try red instead of Earth color.
I know about the color red in Chinese culture, I built their website using red as the primary color. I even had the first design of this menu using red, but my client actually chose and prefers to use earth-tones instead.
Or you can try adding gold looking trim around the main title area with oriental pattern. Hope that helps to bring up the front page a little more interesting. :)
Maybe a few red highlight elements here and there would do the job, not necessarily turning the whole menu bright red.
Hi Kevin.
Great job on the menu. I like the page with the photos of the food items. Also, have you considered using leaders to connect menu items and prices?
As for color, red definitely is a positive color in China -- and keep in mind that red and yellow evoke hunger. Not sure if there is a way to move the color palette in that direction though.
Well done.
Hi Kevin,
I really like this menu. The picture version is nice and helps bring those prices closer to the item it represents. If you keep the non-picture one, then you would for sure need to have something leading to the prices. For by the time the viewer makes it from item description to the price, I'm pretty sure he will wander in all the white space and lose track of what price goes to what item.
I think the space between your main headings words needs to come in. Between "lunch" and "menu" on the front page. Between "Salad" and "Bar" on the second. As well as, "Sushi" to "lunch". Then "Lunch" to "Specials".
Last, I wonder if you used "#1", instead of "1." for your listings would be more useful for your client so customers can say, "Can I have a #1 Maki Combo?" The way that it is now, I'm not sure if I can say it that way or if I need to say "Vegetable Roll and Asparagus roll Maki Combo"
Hi Amy
Your attention to detail is outstanding! I always appreciate your feedback. I'll take care of that pesky spacing right away. Its actually how the font is built but now that you bring it up it is quite noticeable.
Thanks again!
