    typeface

Not a bad start...I would try other typefaces for the text, I see this one more like a "speedcar" than "design". The db could use some web 2.0.

Ok, I'll try other font formats. What do you mean by web 2.0?

I guess what Miro means with web 2.0 is gloss/a plasticky look. And he's right ;-)

Yes, as Christoph said, some gloss & plasticky look.

    It's all about the fonts

Are you sure the tagline font will be legible when the logo is resized to a proper size for a website (like 150px wide)?

Also, I would find it more consistent that if you use a small d in the logo, that you should use a small d at the beginning of your tagline.

    the outline of the text

Posted on Nov 04, 2009 at 11:10 PM

I would lose the black outline of text. This will won't help the logo look good when it is at a small size. I really like the green text on the black bg. The text below it reminds me of a racing font.

    Change text font

Posted on Nov 05, 2009 at 2:19 PM

The font for "design on a budget" looks out of place. Not sure what would be the best, but try Aller, Sansation, Mank Sans. Also, leave the "D" in design uncapitalized, so it matches the logo.

Lose the hairline outlines, or make them a lot bolder (if your outline now=1pt, change it to 5pt or 7pt) so it looks intentional and will be visible at smalls izes.

Added another concept, changing the tagline font to match the border around the box (alos thickened that a bit too).

    main font

I like the third design the most, but would like to change the main font (the caption font seems ok) and the main color could me a little more green.

    Try another font

Posted on Nov 09, 2009 at 8:10 AM

Very nice ideea, simple & clen but try a more web 2.0 font. I like the way the letters go out the box but a would remove the green stroke.

    Overall nice concept.

Prefer second logo with green only on tagline

Posted on Nov 10, 2009 at 8:09 AM

Understand you want to incorporate the green into the DB however doesn't look right as an outline for the DB. Are you able to incorporate the green into the DB in some other way?

change the font of the subtitle

I like the second version the best, but would change the font of the subtitle to something more suitable.

    the tagline font

Posted on Nov 25, 2009 at 4:30 PM

the knockout effect works well. If you need to add color add it to the "black' shapes

Try something like Sans Serif FLF for your tagline text and see what it looks like on the right side instead of underneath. All lower case.

Lose the reflection and the cute little circle dotting the I. These will not translate at small scale in print.

    Good Start

The db icon looks great and standing out. When it comes to the Design on a budget text, it is not upto the mark. It can be improved. Just think what will happen to the text when you reduce the size of the logo...

It's simple, yet working well. However, you need to make some adjustments, in my opinion. The dark shade of green is too dull. It reminds me of military colours. Experiment with lighter shades of green. I'm sure it'd be more energetic and attractive. Drop the both outline strokes, around letters and the box. With outline strokes, it looks unprofessional. Lastly, think on how the logo would look like when you shrink it. If you shrink, the reflection of the box would be almost invisible and even create a dirty look. So, kill the reflection.

nice start. with a little polishing, the outcome would be desirable.

Oh, btw you can use #191c1f for the box. It's a really dark shade of grey, almost black. This could work better.

You're getting closer to the point, yet not there. The second version is the best one in my opinion. However, I have suggestions there. 1- drop the green outline stroke of the box 2- push more the letter "b" down, so that the right bottom corner of it goes out of the box. by doing this, you get rid of the unnecessary detail there. 3- The typeface of caption needs to be changed. Check out the fonts here http://new.myfonts.com/foundry/Larabie/

Have you thought about punching out the db out of the black square? The font for "Design on a budget doesn't seem to work with the db font. I like your colors for the most part. I would use a dark charcoal color instead of the black color. Good start here but keep working on this concept.

Ok, made some alterations. I like the punchout out look you suggested. Also changed the font for the tagline. How's it look?

LOVE the punchout look, great job! I would take the stroke off the object and just keep it super simple. I'm not sold on the font or layout of the text. I would play around with some different concepts on the type set.
