I like the top design better. The fade into the black is striking. It drew me in more.
The social icons on the side are different. I'd be interested to see them live. The only judgment I have on them now, they may dominate the post and take away from the actual content.
The site feels alive.
I like the effect the darker background gives, but the black isn't doing it for me. Have you tried fading to a dark orange?
Ann, I haven't tried the darker orange, good idea!, I'll see how it looks.
The only misgiving I had with the black is it did seem like the bottom of the content area loses definition.
As the black is fav colour, the first concept attracts me more than the 2nd one. Black gives the impression of professionalism.
I'd comment also on two things. First, the typeface for menu items. Don't like it at all. You may try Diavlo, Delicious, or Fertigo. Secondly, the shape of social media icons don't follow up the rest. Try boxy shapes?
i feel instead of putting the icons vertical u can place them hori. that will look much better i guess..!!
I like the layout in a whole, but just wondering about the empty space. But since it's for a blog, I'm guessing that's where the latest post and dates & ads go right? And as far as the colors I'm feeling the 1st one more.
I like everything but the content area. I don't like how you have so many icons hanging off to the side. I would bring the social media icons inside the content area. What is going in the right column? The rest of the site is a really good start. I would decrease the size of the logo as well. Your top concept is the best.
Thanks for the feedback. Forgive me the design is not complete specifically the sidebar. The social media icons that hang off the side will actually only be there when you open the article for reading (after the "read more" link), and they would scroll with the screen as you scroll up and down the post, and comments.
Perhaps I can extend the content area out past the social media icons so they can be included "in the content area".
I'll give it a look.
Thanks for the comments, I'm leaning towards the gradient to black concept as well.
Mike I think you may be right that those icons are a bit dominate. I'll try shrinking them down and see what happens.
Thanks for the feedback.
