    Need something more visual...

So the idea is to show specials for restaurants. Ok, I can understand that.

My concern is that most people (I know) don't go to specific restaurants because of their specials. Do you think there would be interest to check specials?

And by specials do you mean "Today's special is Chef's Mediterranean pizza" or "Buy 1 plate of ribs and get another one 50% off" - because the incentive to look up either is completely different.

If it's more about coupons / deals - then it actually makes more sense than "daily specials".

    Hope this helps.

First of all, thanks for taking the time to review. The interest to check specials, is, mostly, for everyday customers of a restaurant to check the dish of the day. Ex: people at work checking specials of 2 different restaurants for lunch time to decide which one to go to. Indeed, that's not really intended towards people looking to discover a new restaurant.

By specials, i mean menu (today's chef's special), but the coupons/deals feature would also be included later on. The general direction of the service for the future is to help to keep customers aware of their favorite restaurants "live news" and tenders to grow/keep their everyday customers.

Anyway, from your point of you, work has to be done on clarity and design.

Thanks again for your insights, id does help a lot.

too many people are using yelp these days

Posted on Jul 22, 2009 at 8:01 PM

    1. i feel like you might be trying to reinvent the wheel. lots of people go to yelp to decide where to eat.

in terms of specials... i think that most restaurant owners are tech savvy enough to go onto some content management site and update their specials whenever they need to

in this economy its tough, owners dont want to keep giving stuff and deals away, bc you whole customer base become coupon crazy. and when you dont offer deals, they dont come?

    its rough,

its like the restaurant guide book, you get the same bottom feeders who clip the deals and come and take up space.

lots of owners collect emails right now and email deals to their direct customer base

then they may even have their own website.

    its a tough market.

are you charging restaurants to list on your site?

lots of issues and things, but restaurant owners are almost all small business owners trying to save a buck on things, and get the word out efficiently

The service seems clear...but is it different?

Posted on Aug 05, 2009 at 11:41 AM

The service you're planning on providing seems pretty well summed up in "allow restaurants/cafe customers to browse local daily specials and tenders to advertise their everyday specials to their customers." Though I assume by "browse" you mean on the internet? Might make that clear. BUT, it doesn't communicate to me how your service is different or better from other similar services.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to review. The main differences with other restaurant services is that -a) you will be able to check your favorite restaurants everyday's specials (like from your office chair) whereas other services seem to focus on restaurants cards and classic menus and not on the menu of the day -b) it won't be a restaurants directory (in the users/customers fed sense), but rather a service fed by restaurant professionals to exchange with their customers and help them manage their communication. Does it make it any clearer? However, i'll work to make those differences clearer and more immediate to the user. Thanks again for your time. By the way, we've renamed the site to www.onmeal.com

    Counter-intuitive

Posted on Aug 05, 2009 at 11:11 PM

This idea may be relevant to those few people who are value concious. But I dont get why I would want to know the specials for the day for a multitude of restaurants.

Hi, i'll try to explain why .. Let's say you have lunch everyday to some restaurant, and that you have like 4 or 5 restaurants that you switch between in a week. The service will allow you to choose between these 4 or 5 restaurants according to their special of the day. Do you feel like it could be useful in this scenario? Thanks for reviewing.
