    The chair

Posted on Oct 21, 2009 at 8:48 AM

I don't think you need the chair, its our of perspective with the rest of the site in my eyes.

Other than that, its clean and tidy.

    chair

I too would lose the chair. This looks very good, one thing I would think of is the color of the "Doin" and "together" boxes, maybe some brighter (happier) color.

Adult, Student, Children could be richer

Posted on Oct 21, 2009 at 8:58 AM

I also think the site would benefit with a little more grounding in the footer, with links that are accessible when scrolling down on high content pages. My initial feeling is that the main navigation should be repeated at the bottom, and also put in the header with the Adult, Student and Children links/graphics highlighting to representing the current page. Nice design!

Body needs to stand out more

You are right away drawn to the header, but the menu and categories get somewhat lost. I like the header, but the rest of the design is a bit disengaging.

    the legs look to cartoonish

Posted on Oct 22, 2009 at 7:04 AM

they dont match really well i think. perhaps remove them all together or add some shadows to the corners to make them look a tiny bit rounded

      It isn't a table, it's a hearth...like over fireplace...maybe I need to get that across better.

    simplify

I like the idea, and the red background pattern on the header is really nice. I would change the image frame, it's too dark and sad, doesn't match the vivid red colour. I would also remove these things, that look like table's legs ;) they are too ornamental and they are a distraction here. Chair is unnecessary either. I think that you could remove the "legs", chair and photo at all, it would be much clearer.

    A bit cluttered

Posted on Nov 03, 2009 at 9:16 AM

Nate, I'll likely be reinforcing what others have said, but here are things that stick out to me:

    1. LIFE GROUPS font. I'm assuming this is a church group, but it looks like it could be a horror flick title or the perfect font for a cult instead.

    2. DOIN LIFE TOGETHER. Are these candles? Books? It's a bit fragmented from the rest of the site, and I'm not sure where it fits in with your hierarchy.

    3. Color buttons. Maybe it's my monitor, but I can barely make out ADULT and STUDENT. Perhaps tweak the colors more. However, I can read CHILDREN, so no problems there.

    4. Date box. It seems a bit lonely on the right. If you'll notice, most blogs place this on the left. I think this is probably the better way to go, seeing as we read left to right in Western culture. Plus, it creates proximity and groups similar elements.

    5. The chair. Sorry to harp on this, but it out of place and cast shadow needs work. It looks as if it's floating, not resting on a floor.

    6. Footer. I'm assuming there will be more footer info to come?

    blending of chair, mantle

Posted on Nov 06, 2009 at 5:55 PM

GREAT design - awesome, engaging piece of web design. Like it alot. Seems very effective and user friendly.

Only suggestions are add some ground shading to the chair legs to look more realistic, and shading of mantle posts.

    Great work!!

    The header is the boss

Not to keen on the colors of the buttons, not cohesive.

    Something other than a chair?

Posted on Nov 09, 2009 at 1:41 AM

    Hi Nate,

I love the colors and the concept.

    Just a few suggested tweaks:

I can see a slight white edge around the brown vase, So, maybe clean that up a bit in photoshop.

Is there any way to make the shelf look more realistic? I think it is the wood pieces holding up the shelf that look unrealistic.

The chair is not sitting "right" on the suggested floor, the back leg looks floaty, maybe with the right shadow affect will solve that.

The yellow vase seems too tucked into the shelf compared to the other vases.

Maybe even replace the chair with a person? or add a person? By its self it makes me think you may be selling furniture here.

Maybe a line of kids? babies? or a line from baby to kids, to adults, to elders (As to represent different ages that Life Groups" are all about)? It looks like a great opportunity to find something more related to the "Life Groups" there than just a chair?
