    love the rhino.

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 at 2:53 AM

I really like the idea of the rhino being in your logo, seeing how that isn't a very common pair. I'd be interested to see your other sketches of ideas too. When you come up with a name, you could go even farther and name each different types of coffee that they offer after an endangered animal and the environment they live in. Just a thought!

    more vulnerable?

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 at 9:12 AM

I like the logo, and love the tag line.

One thing is that it could be good if you made the Rhino a little more vulnerable... I know this isn't easy, but he looks a bit too strong and not 'endangered' enough

      Hey! Thanks for the review.

And I was thinking about the same thing ... making him look more 'endangered.' I was going to play around with his size more and make it look like he is barely balancing on the coffee bean.

      Thank that would work?

That could work... I am comparing your rhino to the frog in the Rainforest Alliance logo. With the frog I feel sorry for the little guy, and don't want to hurt his home. I don't get the same emotion from the rhino because he is too strong.

If the bean was bigger / the rhino was small and lonely then you would feel a bit more sorry for him, possibly some kind of crick in the neck too, so he looks more depressed and less strong.

I have toyed with the idea of suggesting you cut off his horn a bit like this (http://www.stockphotopro.com/photo-thumbs-2/ATMXG0.jpg) as that is what poachers do to rhinos... but he may just end up looking like a hippo!!

The calf muscle on the back leg looks a bit big too.

On a separate note I think that you could do with linking the rhino with coffee for example only using African Fairtrade coffee. You could then have a line about "African coffee for African Causes" or "African coffee for African Animals"

For the name you could look up the translation of coffee or coffee bean in masai or another african language

    Some shading

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 at 9:19 AM

I would add some shading to the rhino and coffee bean, and incorporate the tagline to the logo as well.

I really like the direction of this logo - the illustration is wonderfully done - i would however modify of lose that tail, it should either be better defined or not there at all. . . i really enjoy the rhino

i can't think of names this morning, but if I come up with some Ill post a comment ;-)

keep working at these, lets see some color!

    Make the rhino smaller...

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 at 1:20 PM

I really like the logo, but the rhino should be a bit smaller in my opinion.

The color is good too, but you could try out a #dac8a1 and see if it's any good?

Overall a very clean and simple logo.

    strong rhino strong name

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 at 1:35 PM

love where everyone is going with the endangered animal bit but we could also go the rout of strong coffee, something like rhino roast or similar would fit with that big tough rhino... also, I think the legs need a bit of work. the back is extremely curvaceous and the front is a stick... just a thought, great work though

    rhino size

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 at 2:02 PM

Try how it looks if the rhino was bigger, maybe it would make him look more off-balanced, standing on a little coffee bean, and vulnerable by that way.

    Rhino smaller

I agree. I would make the bean more of a focus and make the rhino like half the size. Nice concept though.

    coffee is too big

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 at 8:38 PM

despite the color ( well chose - remembers coffee immediately ) i think there is a big and disproportional size difference between the rhino and the coffee.

i like coffee zoo as Amy suggested.

the coffee bean a little small

because the rhino and the bean are confusing. But only a little.

    The crack in the bean.

Posted on Oct 20, 2009 at 2:39 PM

For some reason, my wonderfully crafted review didn't get posted. So now you get my not-so-wonderfully crafted review. In short: like the logo, but crack in the bean isn't "organic" enough (top part of white is too straight). As for names, I like Kilimanjaro. No particular reason, it could be like what Butch told Maria Villalobos in Pulp Fiction.

I like the direction, and agree with other comments about the "balanced Rhino" suggesting the precarious nature of endangered species. Perhaps the bean could be a smaller to reinforce this concept? A large animal on a small bean is a more powerful juxtaposition of elements.

The bean crack and overall shape might need a little tweaking so it looks more like a bean (it looks a little like a hamburger).

Maybe the bean is located on the tip of the horn?

Hi Beth, good decision the black & with, but the rhino too obvious, why not try with a less figurative idea?

    Love it

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 at 8:33 AM

I love the concept and idea of this logo. Really great work here. There is very little if anything I would change here. I would love to see your next iteration of this.

An idea for a name: The Endangered Bean

    GREAT WORK!
