    change design from three-quarters down

Posted on Oct 16, 2009 at 3:56 PM

I really like the top part of the design (the top navigation and image and logo placement, but from there down, i think it needs alot of improvement.

The headers need to be more interesting, the same with the right sublinks (the links are ok, except that the typeface) It also needs more dimension and texture at the bottom.

    Needs tweaking

I like how you're trying to color code the groups and events and I quite like the header but I honestly believe that to make this design work, you're going to have to redesign everything from below the header.

IMHO this is what you should change: 1) Put the 3 colored boxes below the header, and have them span the entire width.

    2) Make the Calendar date match style of the logo, i.e. White text on a colored background. Also it should be much smaller, maybe a quarter of its actual size.

    3) Remove the gray overlay from the footer to increase the contrast of the boxes.

I think it's a good start though. Looking forward to seeing the next version.

    Add Church Name

Posted on Oct 20, 2009 at 6:30 PM

Nice clean design. Easy to navigate. Engaging color scheme. Serves your purpose well!

    Couple ideas:

    1. Add your church name or logo to the design. This could be done really small somewhere if you don't want the tail to wag the dog (maybe under the "Life Groups" logo in the green box, or above the green box).

    2. Your "doing life together" idea is good, but maybe could be integrated into your photo area (maybe as an overlay). This would buy you extra space below, so that people won't have to scroll as much.

    3. I'm not sure why you've added the large gray box at the bottom. It appears that the sub-text items are the same that people would find once they click on your large colored buttons (I'm assuming they are clickable!). My suggestion would be to simply add a fourth button (for HOME) along with the three bright ones you already have...and cut the gray bar out of the design entirely.

    Hope that helps!

Great feedback Tim. I'm in the process of reworking this design a bit. I will definitely try to work in some of those suggestions. Thanks for your time!

    structure and design

Posted on Oct 16, 2009 at 3:47 PM

    Hi there,

I would appriciate more clear info, what this website is about, from the very begging. Put there some slogan, or claim of organization.

    I like the big visual.

Navigation - do not remeber on breadcrums navigation

I like the idea of menu on right side, but this menu should reflect the structure of whole website, rahter than "quick links".

Design: make it more clear, erase all the small things which make it messy (frames around colored buttons, 3D like element in right side menu, wooden element on the top of the website, etc..)

    Try to use less colors..

Try to put more information link next to three links on the top of page - i.e. contact, about us.

I dont like this concept, but i believe, lot polishing can make it nice and profesional website for NGO organization.

    Cheers,

    Jan Lipavsky

    HI,

Readability is important, just reduce picts to increase text size.

To let the viewer know it is church related.

Posted on Oct 16, 2009 at 9:52 PM

I like this. I just had no idea that this was a church related. So, I agree with Jan to somehow get that across.

Do you want a shadow on the picture related to the green life groups label, since you have the fold angled to the left it feels it needs a shadow fitting to the angle push? if not maybe take that back part that flings over the picture out.

Posted on Oct 16, 2009 at 10:42 PM

    a) u have used a wooden bg on top u could have repeat that on footer as well.

b)on the right column below latest resources there is too many white space u have to think abt it..

now last but not least in the footer the four boxes you have used are getting ost can u make them promienent.. now this are my impression/comment first of all see whether it will be useful foru or not..

    3d

I would remove the 3d stripes on the right (and the gradient) and continue designing with the 2d-look that the rest of the page has. Otherwise, I agree to Frashad.

    color

I like the design, it looks good. I really like the ribbons for the links on the right side, but just giving those some 3d feel to them makes the rest of the site look 'flat'.

logo placement is a little tight with the photo

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 at 3:01 AM

I love the feeling that I get as a viewer, with the details of the wood and the 'quick links' and 'life group' banners wrapping around the menu makes it more realistic and inviting.
