The flash needs to be more engaging

Posted on Oct 15, 2009 at 4:17 AM

I quite like the header area. The photos are nice, the colours are great and the logo is clear enough.

However my main problem is the flash banner in the centre:

    • It changes too quickly and is distracting because of it.
    • There's hardly any content in it to be worth your time. It's a big space that could be used more effectively.
    • I feel like there could be more in that space.

Perhaps take some design cues from the header graphic?

Other than the flash banner, my only other issue is the navigation. I feel it's a bit weak and small. Do you think people will use it all the way up there? Perhaps it should go below the large 'tinkaroni' banner?

    Change the menu

Posted on Oct 15, 2009 at 4:48 AM

The banner is fantastic, works great with the logo, i love it.

Try doing something a little more original with the menu. Its kind of just coloured boxes slapped in there. You could even simplify it down to basic text with a roll-over.

    Getting better, more texture

Posted on Oct 15, 2009 at 7:59 AM

I am glad that you removed the ferns in the background and changed the color. It is a lot less tasking on the eyes. However, I fell like you need some sort of texture in the background to liven things up back there. The navigation looks a little plain to me. I would try and jazz up the nav a bit. Your type still needs a little bit or work. Maybe add a heading and or some sort of treatment to the paragraph that makes it more interesting.

I think you have a good design here, so keep working on it. You just have a few details to tighten up.

    drop shadow

Posted on Oct 15, 2009 at 10:28 AM

Looks good, but are you sure about the drop shadow ?

for me it's not useful, this page is already strong enought you don't need this trick.

The round corners at the bottom are too rounded compared with the inside round corners

    The navigation

Posted on Oct 15, 2009 at 10:38 AM

Nice! I liked the positive feel of the site and the clear product highlights. I would not use italic in the main navigation and the navigation whitespaces should be more uniform. Now the short navs have a lot of WS and the longer ones allmost too little. A call to action would be effective on the main flash as well. Very positive feel and nice colors!

Have you tried the light green that is at Tinkaroni "o" for the background color?

    Product contrast from background

Posted on Oct 16, 2009 at 1:44 PM

    Hi Rotimi,

I only have a few suggestions:

Maybe use the word " x-mas cards" or just the word cards instead of the long word "Christmas cards" for your navigation button.

Secondly, I viewed each of your revolving pictures on your site. I believe the only thing that you need there is contrast between the product and the background. For example with the yellow background display the Green box "naming", with the orange background have the red box, with the green background have yellow box ...

Right now the product slips away into the background rather than popping out from the background.

I really like the pic chose for this site. As well as, the colors used.

Thanks for the suggestions will look into it. However I may have to use a relatively neutral backgound for the products so that would be continuity on the product pages.
