    drop shadow?

Posted on Oct 14, 2009 at 4:08 PM

I can totally relate and understand what you mean about the name! But, we gotta work with what we got and make the client happy. . .

All and all i feel like it's pretty strong, however, for whatever reason the crest/shield image just makes me think about soccer. I don't even play soccer.

i think I like the leading, but at the same time I'd like to see a little bit more lead between Apparel and Graf-x. . . It's a bit tight in some areas. . .

Im also worried about the mark in B+W, it's relatively understandable, but it's not that strong for me without the color. . .

Perhaps they could just use a solid type treatment for their logo? Nothing beats solid typography!

Or may just in a different direction entirely for the logomark, perhaps thinking a bit more about their service, how its cyclical and helps education, schools, etc. . .

all in all it's a great beginning! I look forward to seeing more!

Use basic vibrant school colors and fonts

Posted on Oct 14, 2009 at 7:20 PM

I'm not feeling the gray. I think the colors should be more vibrant - colors that reflect high schools: purples, red-burgundies, and blues. Anything but gray. The gold is fine - keep that.

I wouldn't recommend any drop shadows or gradients simply because it will make it harder to post to media that has a black background or another color etc. The shield throws me off. To me, it doesn't really say, "highschool".

I would get rid of the shield all together, enlarge the t-shirt and somehow, put it in the background of the text. And then outline the text with a think border, or use the well-known Highschool font.

    Remove the effects

Posted on Oct 15, 2009 at 4:13 AM

First and foremost, if they're a screen printing company, they'll be hard pressed to do the gradients and shadows on their own products. I think it'll be best to keep the clean version on the 2nd row.

This may be personal opinion here, however:

    • I don't like the colour combination. The grey is rather weak against the yellow. If you're using yellow i'd suggest a more contrasting colour like black.

    • I'm also not huge on the font. It's along the right lines I think. It needs to be a chunky font, but I'm just not huge on it.

    • I would also try another treatment on the typography. Maybe try it on one line, or ensure the letters are better spaced on the 2nd line.

    • What does the badge on the left represent? I get the T-Shirt, but is it a badge for the sake of a badge? Perhaps it's a bit car-like with a badge?

Just running off thoughts... hope it helps!

    Reconfigure type

I like the shield but I don't think the stacked text is working for you. I would play around with different sizes of for the font, different orientations and maybe even different fonts.

The font is not working, and the shield doesn't fit the concept. And play with different fonts and their orientation against it with the shirt.

    the shirt

Posted on Oct 15, 2009 at 3:35 PM

I have no problem with the shield concept, but I don't like the vertical bars.

I also not fond of that particular shirt icon. I think it's simply just because the sleeves seem a little too long.

If you tinker with the shield, and find that you could use a couple letters in there, like you'd find on most soccer logo shields ( http://tinyurl.com/yhhuh5h ), try using AGX.

As for the font, I don't have any problems with it. I've been on a "even" kick lately, so if it were me, I'd probably see how it'd look with shrinking Apparel down until it was the same with as Graf-X. I think Graf-X is the more important of the two anyways, so it may look better. But that's more of a preference call.

I agree about the shirt arms being too long.

    the mark

Posted on Oct 15, 2009 at 11:22 PM

Not crazy about the mark. The shield is big in proportion to the shirt. It seems like there is a more interesting angle to draw from that is symbolic with the charity/community aspect.. like a puzzle piece or something (is that too cliche?).

On the word mark, I like the font but not how they are stacked and don't align evenly. I really liked the tag line on your previous version, where did that go? Colours are working, perhaps a little more contrast.

Another observation, although may be of no use to you, the negative space surrounding the dash and the X could be leveraged in a future design to make a right pointing arrow.

Despite the odd spelling and hyphenated name ( i feel your pain) I think there is a cool concept just waiting to be uncovered.

Defiantly find a new typeface. Not so hot on the gradients either.

Out of the three the second is my favorite!

    No drop shadow/shine

Posted on Oct 20, 2009 at 12:03 AM

I agree with the other comments. Also using the drop shadow might not be a good idea for production on t-shirts. Since that's what they do they might want shirts of their own.

The version with the drop shadow is only for full color printing applications, obviously, such as brochures, business cards, website, etc. The other 2 versions are examples of the logo would look like if it was printed in 1 or 2 colors.

    Referee? or Apparel?

Posted on Oct 20, 2009 at 11:16 AM

This concept does not present apparel at all. The shield has not cohesive feel with the shirt. The strips in the shield make me think of a sport referee.

its ok, Its a little bland. how about trying to capitalize on the STAMPING concept and SPORTS and make a stamping effect.

I think what you need is the personality of the company and what energy you want.

you need to include this idea of GIVING BACK money somehow. So the proposition is I get identity onto apparel for sports teams with reduced risk and get a share of the profits.

Try to find a visual that conveys those 3 key points so I get the concept quick. Maybe make a GREEN stamp with APPAREL grafx on end of stamp head and position stamp like its stamping on a tshirt and it just finished the stamp and is being pulled away to reveal what was just stamped on shirt and the image that is left are different sports collection (soccer ball, football, basketball, tennis racket.

That would help me know what they do and the context they do it for (sports).

The name is ok but not very helpful. pretty bland naming which makes graphics bland I think.

    Merge 2 & 3

Posted on Oct 14, 2009 at 5:33 PM

This is definitely an improvement over the last design, but I still can't say I'm a big fan of the logo.

If was to pick a design from the 3, I'd ask you to put the yellow from the second into the black shield (between the stripes) and to basically have the design black and yellow, as opposed to medium gray and yellow as it is now.

Great work though, you're getting there!
