    shirt

How about moving the shirt to the right side so you could put the "-X" inside it? Red text, red shirt, white "-X".

    The x or the t-shirt

Hi Tyler, I'm new here. I woud say that you are a good illustrator, but this logo needs to be a little bit more simple. I woud get rid of the t-shirt. Or transform the X into a t-shirt.

    make it more school-like

Posted on Oct 13, 2009 at 12:58 PM

If their main market really is high schools, maybe the style could be more like existing school-type styles (check out logos/mascots/ the word "varsity".)

Otherwise, I like the font you are using for the "Apparel Graf" part of the logo. I don't like the 2 x's, especially since they are so red - they overshadow the rest of the logo. I would only use one. I like Miro's idea of putting the shirt on the right side.

Also, I don't like the alignment of the Apparel Graf-x. I read "Apparel Graf" first since the red x is so unlike the other letters.

I would consider how you would design this if it was screen printed on a shirt, ie. 1 or 2 colors minus the gradients. (I like the gradient treatment, but I would wait until you have the design nailed down before you start to make it all 2.0 ish.)

Great start - looking forward to seeing more concepts!

design it in black and white only first

Posted on Oct 12, 2009 at 7:36 AM

thats going to be difficult to put on anything thats not a website with a blue background.

i suggest working on logos in silhouette only first as this is the most basic representation of the mark and then id appropriate add colour.

does this logo work in black and white... i suspect not.

Thanks for the tip, however, I already employ this technic, I simply chose to upload the much prettier version. I have attached a new image with the black and white version for your benefit.

Don't like the way it's stacked...

Posted on Oct 12, 2009 at 7:52 AM

Great start for sure, not sure I like the way it is stacked though. I would keep playing with different ways of stacking it and maybe not even stacking it all. The other thing that I am not too keen on is the way my attention is drawn to the x in Graf-X that I don't even have a chance to read the company name first.

This is a fantastic start though, I like where you are going.

    red X

Posted on Oct 12, 2009 at 9:08 AM

Filed under the Maybe-Its-Just-Me category: It's rare that I ever use a Windows PC, but the red X on the shirt registers with me as the Missing Image icon...

Aside from the X thing, the Tshirt image is cool. I wonder if that thin neck line will get lost when the image is used smaller than this..

The X in Graf-X seems a little dark in relation to the rest of the letters. Maybe try it with keeping the fill the same, but give it the same white outline as the rest of the letters... or make the fill the white-to-gray gradient, and give it a red outline...

The K in the tagline looks odd.
