| Minor Problem on Simply Marx Cover v2.png | |
| 1 | I feel that type treatment on this should be a bit different from the title. Maybe a different font? or a lighter shade of gray? or a different weight? |
| 2 | It just irritated me because I'm not able to see the the same texture of the white beards on the black ones. |

| I'm sorry but I gotta ask. These are great illustrations no doubt about that. But Marx has a very well known figure, so it works better on that but Fraud does not. Yes, it definitely looks great and definitely feels like a shrink. What I wanna ask is, is character illustrations really the right way to go here? | |
Absolutely great illustrations. Even though I'm suspicious about the character illustration idea, I'm more suspicious about the minimalistic white design. Yes it makes a lot of sense, but may not work as intended when printed and wrapped around the book. You should definitely print some mock ups and test it out.
Thank you for your review Ege...
The whole basis of this series of books centers around our site at http://simplycharly.squarespace.com/. The site is currently being redesigned. So the actual url is not live yet which is http://simplycharly.com.
So to answer your question, the caricatures "stay in the picture!"
I really like those illustrations. Very good illustrations. But composition looks for me poor, it underuses those great illustrations.
Why not to try to use bigger illustrations?
Below are some suggestions for composition.
Thank you for your helpful suggestions. They are thought provoking and will certainly stimulate more ideas.

IllustrationI love the illustration and the simplicity of the project

ContentAlthough I am familiar with the subjects of these books, teens might not be. Right now the only incentive for them to open the book is the artwork, there is no subtitle to pull the casual browser into learning more.

Great artworkWarm, quirky, and intriguing, the characters are great.

Target AudienceFrom what is displayed, I cannot tell who the target audience is for the book. My impression from the "Simply Charles" icon is that it is for teens, most likely an attempt to make historical characters fun and approachable for teens, but I'm not really sure.
Very nice, clean designs, with good colors and inviting expressions. I think people would open one of these books just based on the artwork. I do think a bit more information could be communicated, however, about the content and target audience to improve sales conversion.
I liek Einstein concept. Especially the one without book in it.
The Marx has facial hair color that is too black in the middle - otherwise it looks good. Currently kind of weird :)
Einstein looks too sad and sick. Make him look slightly more attractive.
The other two guys seem to be ok, but I don't know how they look like in real life so its hard to say.
What is too light? Please be specific. Thank you.
