| Serious Problem on macy's-redesign.jpg | |
| 1 | most important entrance (imo) so empahsis should probably be bigger on this than on 'giftguide, stores, deals & promotions, etc'.. how to do that, (increase text-size, or something else is up for debate of course) |
| 2 | fights for attention with the main -menu .. an alternative would be: decrease text-size (these links really aren't THAT important imo, say 11px) + move them top left above the logo. May seem like a weird place, it it's done before with success. Better yet, make it a taskbar (the entire region above the logo, say 32 px in height), which could also cover other elements (right-aligned) , like the cart, etc. (see other note) |
| New Idea on macy's-redesign.jpg | |
| 1 | move up (right-aligned) to the 'task-bar' as described in a nother note. As it is now, it's fighting for attention. These are more 'status-like' messages + facilitary instead of main navigational-elements. |
| 2 | move this up to the (now vacant area (see other note)) where the Local ads | customer service | options | my store used to be. This now creates a nice horizontal menu-bar containing the main-nav + search.. just how it should be imho |
| 3 | I see these status messages being important, but I don't like the placement. Perhaps moving it up to the place where 'giftguide | stores| , etc' is (that place is now vacant, see other note) , but than slightly higher to vertically align with the logo + right-align it (say 20px from the right side) would be a better place |
Great big visual (the 2 girls) , I definitely see that working as an attention-grabber. Perhaps that entire region could work as a (auto)-carousel? Don't really like the placing of the 30% off-text, but of course that's graphics related rather than design related. As it is now it's bothering the flow / eye-gaze for me.. Right-aligning with 20px margin instead of ~50px as it is now would help imo.
Teasers below are great, although I (really) don't like the dotted borders.
Biggest issue is the 3-double top-menu bar (at least it seams that way) . I see all the elements may be needed, but I really think they need to be reconfigured. See my notes for a suggestion.
Tell your friend well done! Cheers, Geert-Jan
p.s: i uploaded a quick mockup to reflect the sings I said in the notes.
I agree -- awesome revue. It's nothing like great constructive feedback from other professionals. Thanks Geert.
| Minor Problem on macy's-redesign.jpg | |
| 1 | This typography is a bit small. The fancy font here does not say anything about the brand and it is kind of hard to read. Maybe try matching it with similar fonts used in other places on the page. |
| 2 | This takes up a bit too much real estate. I think the branding here can still get the message across with fewer pixels. |
| 3 | These sections look a little funky because they are different sizes. If the main branding image above was shrunk a bit, then these two sections could be made the same size. The page would look better and be easier to scan. |
| New Idea on macy's-redesign.jpg | |
| 1 | It seems like the entire body could be a bit wider. Maybes it just the wireframe and the coded site will fit to screen. |
| 2 | How would this look on the white background that the rest of the content is place on? This seems a bit out of place because the rest of the page is placed on a white background, then over the red. |
| 3 | Maybe give the search more space on the page. One of the issues I have with the current Macy's site is the search is too small. Many users are comparison shopping and know what they are looking for. They use search to get to the product quickly. If they can't find search or if search is difficult to use, then they may leave the site without shopping. |
Hi Emeka.
This is a decent design. I think the body could be wider, the sizes of some content pieces could be adjusted, and some changes could be made to some of the typography. The details of these can be found on my annotations of the wireframe.
I think this design could definitely improve the current Macy's site. This design reduces the amount of text on the homepage and captures the spirit of the Macy's brand with the use of color and images. I would spend some time improving the size and placement of search for users who come to the site knowing what they want. Search is a bit small and hidden on the current site and in this design.
I hope this helps!
That was very helpful, we surely appreciate your comments. I've already forwarded them to my buddy. Thanks John.

Colors and VibranceThe colors and imagery is great. It really makes me want to shop at Macys more than usual :-)
| Critical Problem | |
Hero or A SpotI think the Hero/Aspot is nice looking but I don't think it functions as well as it could. Not that you need to jam 50 things at the top I think visually you can add more to it to sell Macy's products. Afterall we must remember the purpose of the visit is to ultimately purchase a product.
| New Idea | |
Adding elements to HeroMaybe you can incorporate some other elements into the hero to showcase more of what Macys has to offer/sell.
Utilize HeaderMaybe the header can be used more. It's kind of plain right now. Maybe the nav can go further up as well as the search and shipping feature.
Overall I think the design is strong with some tweaking this can be a home run. Maybe even submit to Macy's and say what their website could be! Good job!!!
The site pops and does exactly what is suppose to do. However, the navigation should be larger and type heavier and so does the type in the other boxes below the large one.
You should work on the header. The menu. In my opinion it could be better. the concept is very good. You could work on the two menus at the top and make them a lot better.
I like the colour scheme for the design the girls also got my attention this design stands out an says wow not bad the menu need help agree with everyone about that all in all good design

30% offSeems squished where it is currently located. Try a different layout. for that content.

Could swing some calls to action higher on the pageThis main image is taking up way too much visual real estate for a site focused on surfacing sales and new merch.
CTAs of watch and ski mask are wonkyThese should in 3s or 4s, this 2/3 1/3 is not working with the image of the watch right in the middle.
Sales copy too smallI would bump up the sale information wording everywhere. It's much more important than extra white space.
| Positive Feature | |
Nice image choiceTotally for your audience, nice work.
Maybe space the menu items a bit more. Then look a little cramped at the momen
Hi Arianit, welcome to CF. Please don't submit empty reviews. You wouldn't want to get empty reviews on your concept either, do you?
Great Review!
