Really uncool. It is not difficult to say at least something. And by the way, this design is boring. This page is for something design related and for design people? Overall a nice design. Consistant colors and feel. I have included some recommendations in my comments.
Summary:
I dont like the logo, it looks a little dated and generic. The color scheme seems a little stark and struggles to bring your attention to any of the content in particular.
If it is a portoflio site for images, then image needs to take centre stage and get rid of the bar down the left. Maybe a comments section isn't the best use of time on your portfolio.
There also needs to be a little more graphic content some icons and a more exciting logo.

The layout is very solid. My only insight is -- the colors used seem to "glow" It's an interesting evocative treatment (you nailed it if you were striving for that). My gut says it sends a message that competes with the site content and navigation. It feels like a florescent light - in a room that should have natural light...
Bottom-line - it takes away from the content and makes the navigation difficult to read. I encourage you to strive for crisp contrast of all typographic elements.
I've also noticed, you are repeating some functional (specifically pagination controls) Pick one -- avoid using both.
