Hi David,
Overall, this is a pleasing design. It's a bit busy with the full saturated graphical background. In my opinion, it's may cause an unnecessary distraction. It also may be a page load issue...
A few things to consider:
Test Test Test!
Good luck on this effort!

Some statistically significant results have come in from the usability test. http://rawlins.verifyapp.com/tests/3624a9e830ca44626f30a31be8de6ad8ea4e9954
Based on a sample of 37 people -- I can state with a 95% degree of certainty that 78% of your visitors (up to a population of 250k) would respond favorably to Design A over B. There is a margin of error of plus or minus 9.67.
You should 'filter' the results by age, gender or country to see some interesting patterns. The raw data tab also shares some credible verbatim responses.
Good stuff!

Add EmotionTravel is spurred by emotion, and this site unfortunately appears to be a news article. I travel a lot for work, and I stay in Starwood hotels a lot. Every time I connect to their website www.spg.com I'm overwhelmed by the beautiful imagery on their website. It makes me want to visit these places. (I do hate all the credit card offers!) Here is another example. A little more informational, but still a large focus on imagery: http://www.kahanavillage.com/

| 1 | Enquire Now should be an image with text that grabs attention |
I'm not sure if i like the beach in the background, seems too busy. also where are the pictures of thai ladies? lol
I would add a map of thailand with clickable links to the major cities (bangkok, chiang mai, chiang rai, pattaya, hua hin, koh phangan, phuket, etc) so the user can see the country of thailand visually

| 1 | The background gets more attraction than the content. Try to lessen the opacity to 70% maybe just to focus the users on the content. |

| 1 | maybe you can add video in any featured destination. |
Not a massive fan of the header and the background seems abit too 'stock'.. Other than that, It looks well layed out, chronological and user friendly!
Thank you for the in-depth review Michael. Your ideas and opinions have got me thinking. Thank you also for posting those great resources. I will discuss with the client and in-corporate some of your feedback in the final revision.
