| 1 | The link on the left seems too dark. Not sure if it's the image you've uploaded though |
| 2 | Looks set a little too much to the right |
| 3 | Maybe these buttons should stand out much more (especially preorder). The use of colour will be enough here |
| New Idea on releasedates_productpage.jpg | |
| 1 | I would say that the twitter feed needs to integrate itself more with the rest of the site. Maybe by having the same colour scheme and type treatment as the other elements on the page?
|
This is a fantastic design, everything is laid out well, hierarchy is strong and all the information that I need is displayed in a well organised fashion.
I have made a few notes on a few things I found.
Thanks Michael - great review!
Thanks!

Twitter FeedI think that the feed looks out of place due to the background color and the use of the color blue for the links. If you apply the style of the rest of the site to the twitter feed, it will look more like it is part of the site. Currently it looks like an add on. Also, with it being white, it raises its importance on the site, which I don't think is the intended use.

| Critical Problem | |
Sub-Sub-NavigationI am not sure why you have a third navigation system directly above "Samsung Galaxy SII". I looks like the nav items are the same as the navigation in red. If you are under smartphones in the red navigation, why are you under phone in the below navigation.
| Positive Feature | |
Search BarI think that a natural act by a user would be to search for their phone and the way you have it designed makes it easy for the user to find.
Nice work, just a few issues with the twitter feed and the interactive timeline. I think that the twitter feed should match the rest of the site in terms of color scheme. Currently it just looks like it was placed in with native styles. Also, I am not sure why someone would need to know the timeline of multiple phones when they are viewing one at a time.
Brett, thank you for a helpful review, you mention a lot of things that I was aware of, but couldn't quite get my head around. Cheers
Hi Aaran, this is going to be a great website, beautiful product page and from my point of view it has only one problem (the product page), the "Buy Now" and "Keep me up to date" from "My Releases" takes my attention from the product that i'm viewing, i think you should temper them down a little, but besides that i think is a great page, congrats.
David, thanks very much!

| 1 | weird large margin |
| 2 | more should probably have a '>>' or something, because I think this would show a dropdown-box? Signaling that clicking this triggers a different type of action then clicking the other menu-items is good from a ux-perspective. |
| 3 | The highlighted item has a colored border outside. I would make it inside (overlapping 1 - 2 px over the image) . Now, It breaks the grid in a bit cluttered way to me.
|
| Minor Problem on releasedates_homepage.jpg | |
| 1 | you're not being consistent on your margin-left here. THe product page was aligned with the inner-container.. Here it's aligned (or even overflowing) the outer-container. |
| 2 | spacing / gutter between the teasers is a bit too much for my liking. Perhaps Centering the entire block more by increasing margin-left/right of the entire block and at the same time decreasing the margins between teasers would give it a tighter feel. I think that would improve eye-scanning as well |
| 3 | not too sure about the gradient back of the main-menu. How would pure black (no gradient) work? |
| 4 | why the darkish grey background of the search-bar? If the idea was to make it less pronounced, perhaps decreasing height (but brightening it up) would work as well. |
| Serious Problem on releasedates_homepage.jpg | |
| 1 | I find this awkward. I take it this are the controls of the 'latest releases' carousel? If so perhaps the controls could be incorporated on the black background of the title 'latest releases' instead. It feels cluttered now |

| 1 | Great short & sweet |
| New Idea on releasedates_productpage.jpg | |
| 1 | You're going with a (not sure how to say it in english) counter-look right? Making the background a bit 3D. I like the idea, but would work a bit more on getting that extra pronounced. It could be a good eye catcher |
| New Idea on releasedates_homepage.jpg | |
| 1 | I would expand the heading background to encompass the text below in width |
| 2 | How about just saying: "You're missing out!" it feels catchier, and makes curious
|
Like the overall site. The color palette (and probably the lack of rounded corners, etc) make it strongly feel as targeted to men. I'm pretty sure that's what you're after, given the nature of the products (?) .
Because you asked for it, I'll give some pixel-related suggestions :)
Brilliant Review! Thanks so much!

| 1 | I suggest changing the calls to action to a different color so they stand out better. |
| New Idea on releasedates_productpage.jpg | |
| 1 | More descriptive heading on the timeline. Not sure what you're offering here.
|
| 2 | Add some line breaks. Walls of text are hard to read.

| Minor Problem on releasedates_productpage.jpg | |
| 1 | Maybe the diamonds need to be in orange too.. |
| 2 | Black on red not a great color combination... how about making the submenu grey? |
| 3 | I think you need to look at a different color contrast for large text areas ... this is hard to read. |
| 4 | Not at all sure about the red on black here... |
| Minor Problem on releasedates_homepage.jpg | |
| 1 | Still not sure about this logo... |
| 2 | Like these .... why two rows? |
| 3 | Like this... central and very simple... should we put in example text hints e.g. keywords or brands... |

| 3 | Think these three options are quite clear - like it. |
| Positive Feature on releasedates_homepage.jpg | |
| 1 | Really like the fact that you have clearly labeled the ad area. |
| New Idea on releasedates_productpage.jpg | |
| 1 | Not sure that this indicates the connection clearly enough. I also don't really like the black on red. |
Overall I love the simplicity of both pages.
Excellent use of white space (or rather grey space (: ) and the grid.
I am slightly concerned about some of the readability... although need to assess this at full size. Red on black or black on red is not usually a good combo. Also white text on a black background should not be used on large areas of text. I prefer lower case fonts ... on the whole but I can see that the ALL CAPS makes it a little more masculine. I am glad you use lower case for the actual products.
On the home page I wonder if we are using red to mean too many different things in this webpage... it is providing both call to actions and also information like the date. I think I would prefer to have these separated.
I prefer the way you have used orange as the call to action across most of the product page... even in the interactive timeline ... in other words orange means you can click on me...clear message to the user.
I can understand Alex's comment about the headers on the last round of reviews... I wonder if the black background makes them look more like buttons than headers... Does the design need that at all - could not just have the text... in header style e.g. bold... Don't feel particularly strongly about this as I can see it reinforces the grid .. .which I like. But just wondered what it would look like without... maybe slightly less noisy... maybe not.
Like the way you have done the ads.
The footer looks much better. I realise it is a work in progress (:
Really sorry this has taken me so long.

All valid points, and I agree with most… You'll hav to excuse me if I don't get back to you guys, to much this week… The kids had a run in with my mac, they spilt bubble mixture on it and the battery has given up the ghost, and I am not sure about the hard-drive, waiting for it to dry… If I don't get a chance to email James, could you let him know?
Cheers
Aaran
Hi Aaran,
Overall this is looking great. Had a look at the existing site and it's a massive improvement both in visuals and usability.
My only thoughts are small ones - one is the same as Lisa and that the legibility of white on black might be quite hard going if there's a lot of text to read.
I really like the Keep me up to date button in the main Call to Action area by the Samsung Galaxy but then the Keep me up to date button in the 'My releases' area is different size, colour and hasn't got the icon which feels a bit odd.
Also on the main call to action area with the Buy Now, Pre Order etc maybe the font size could be the same on both Buy Now and Pre Order.
Really like your use of the footer with Popular tabs, categories, Social Links and the Latest Tweets although the Latest Tweets head needs to be centered. Also will the tweets be styled differently? The white kind of sticks out a bit too much and doesn't fit with everything else doing on.
Finally the large search pane at the top of the site feels a bit unblanced. Maybe have it the same height as the login. I've been trying to work out what it is about it which makes it feel 'off'. I think it's just that it's the way it's balancing in the space in that top area.
Overall this is looking great. Sorry I've not reviewed it before. Your typography is really nice - good hierarchies, good organisation of content, nice attention to detail, good branding, lovely stuff :D
Thanks Emma!

THE GOGGLES! THEY DO NOTHING!My eyes don't know where to look here. I'm drawn to the BUY NOW button, but other information is lost on me
Do you seriously think, that this is a quality review? From what I can tell, you are giving a whole bunch of empty reviews so you can post a concept.
What I can tell you is that I will boycott this concept, and being one of the highest ranking members here, you will get NOTHING from the community, also I know that this is a good design, and has excellent usability so a 2 for Design (you're obviously blind) and a 1 for usability (means you're more than likely mentally retarded)…
I apologise for not giving greater insight.. I was in a rush and was having problems with the site - I thought it was my browser at first - But it turns out this site rather poor and has broken pages and review comment icons don't match their headings - It was rather confusing.
But design is subjective, and I'm afraid I just didn't find your design to be very good (not that I'm a design expert)
Ok Simon, I am glad that you had the decency to reply. What do <strong>you</strong> think could be done better, or improved upon to make the design good (speaking from a non-design-expert perspective) may be you can show me examples of what you think are good designs?!
I appreciate why some website have ads.. But do you really need ads if you're making money selling phones. The ads distract customers from purchasing the phone. In my opinion, the image of the phone should be the most prominent image, and the users eye should be able to then find the information about the phone.
On your design my eye wonders to the ads, to the timelime, the people online now, etc
I think these websites do it right: http://shop.o2.co.uk/mobilephone/paymonthly/init/Samsung/GalaxySII
http://themes.9magentothemes.com/mt_yoming/index.php/smartphone/nokia-5800.html
They're simple clean sites with lots of white space that doesn't overpower the user with too many distractions
Simon, whilst I agree about the ads it's not my decision, that's up to the owner of the site (I'm the designer)… Also It's not a shop site, it's an information site about what's coming to the market, it has a buy now, to order through affiliate sites. The web designs that you gave me, one doesn't work and the other is a theme based on Magento (a system I have used previously, which is an absolute pig to skin)… Surely you can point in the direction of something that is actually designed and original, and not like every OTHER shopping cart site in the market. I design to a clients need not to the masses all my works are individual…
It may not appeal to you, but as you have clearly stated you're not a design expert, so you have missed the uniqueness, of the site design, and the customization that has gone into this design.
It might be best if you go to the actual site www.releasedates.co and tell me if you think my redesign is better, or worse…
Overall I liked it. You may want to put less emphasis on the footer, it's a bit distracting.

Can you explain to me, how this is helpful? If you can't be bothered writing a useful / helpful / criticizing review, then don't bother!
it's the image, funny how jpg kills the quality
