Serious Problem on conceptindex.png 1 Watch out here. You use the word message me. But i would change this into: "Get a quick quote" of something. Because now its to casual. 2 Put this on a more prominent place. The goal of your site is for people to contact you! New Idea on conceptindex.png 1 This is a large amount of text, you should consider posting some unique selling points here in a nice bulleted list. Also make very clear what you do with your business. So dont post a story with bla bla bla, but make it very obvious what customers can expect and what your services. 2 Use strong brands here! If you focus on coding, try to choose a big project for each of your coding skills. A nice CSS website, A nice PHP project etc etc. And put large icons of these techniques on top of the image so people can see in one look what kind of work you do! Summary:

I will try to give you usefull feedback on your design, but i will first focus on the goal of your website. You state that you are not the worlds best designer, but you are a web developper. If this means you are talented in coding and not so much in design i would put the focus on this. If you want to do both (design and coding) i would definetly focus on your unique selling points and talents instead of the things you know you arent the best in.
If you focus on coding more i would make this very clear in your desciption and on your homepage. (W3C valid coder or something like that)
If you want to focus on design. I would definetly make your design more atractive. You seem to have a good feeling for using the space on a page, but this site is very dark. You might want to choose 1 color to support your design (look at the conceptfeedback's green support color) Using one color will make the design more vivid and allows you to focus the users attention to important sections of your site (The get a quote button).
If you are a single webdesigner they can hire, you could make the website more personal by adding a picture or a short description of your experience. I would definetly put logo's of the biggest brands you worked for on you website. Possibly even with statements from these customers praising your work. This will increase the trustlevel of your website.
This is in short the things i would definetly change on your website. If i have some more time i will give you some extra tips.

Ah I hope Fly By Knights is not the name you are planning to use. I have hired developers and designers in that past and I think that might put me off!
Also since this site is trying to show case your code skills ,with a bit of design thrown in, it needs to really show off your code skills and at present it does not.Critical Problem on conceptsingle.png 1 Not getting what this is supposed to be. It is distracting. -

I know it is a draft site, but ask yourself" what the person looking to hire would think of this site"? Is it what you want them to think.
It needs to better show case your coding skills first and foremost. And need needs to be easier to read. Look forward to your revision. Just remember it is a process.

if this is your porftolio, you have a lot to work on. even if your goal is to be hired as a developer not a designer, i still think you need to level up your design. potential clients are drawn to what they see first.
try looking at some portfolios to get you a good idea on where your site wants to go. the overall design just looks gray, use at 3 colors that you can mix.
have a heading that says about you, not just "about me" text, and a short description coz most people dont want to read long text.
You can also have a blog layout for your recent work, an image and description.
try placing the message me form on the bottom and maybe you can put in there your latest work, have another link at the top for contact info.

Positive Feature on conceptindex.png 1 Nice typeface. 2 I like this arrangement, and the quantity of elements (Simple and clean). However, where would users go to see all of your work? You may consider a "view all" or archive or previous/next button(s). Positive Feature on conceptsingle.png 1 I like this box. New Idea on conceptindex.png 1 This looks a little awkward here. It is not a common practice nor necessarily bad one either. However, it is taking a prime position/space from your screen real estate. 2 Verify alignment and spacing. Just a suggestion: You could move the copyright info to the bottom of the page, make it a single line instead of two (and used your preferred alignment). Then, you could have 3 columns: 1) Home and Blog, 2) From:Twitter 3) email and twitter 3 I recommend including a link to your resume, or LinkedIn public profile, or a different page that shows your experience, training and skills. Potential employers may want to check this info before contacting you. 4 You might consider including below your name what is your title, or what you do (e.g. Web Designer) this will give any visitor immediate info about you. Also, it will improve findability in terms of search engines. 5 A LinkedIn profile is a "must have" these days. This would be a very useful link for an employer. Other on conceptindex.png 1 "About Me" and "Message Me" is certain size if "Recent Work" is a mayor section too, you might want to use the same font-size. Summary:

Minor Problem on conceptindex.png 1 Maybe you should try to move this underline on the links and put some fancy hover effect: maybe a text indent on hover and changing the color.. 2 This boxes should have bigger height, not to big, but maybe a little bigger.. Positive Feature on conceptindex.png 1 Like the noise effect if that is that you used on the backgound.. Looks good in either way.. New Idea on conceptindex.png 1 Maybe you should try a font that is not italic for your logo, and maybe a font that has a little bigger weight.. See google fonts - "Lobster two" for example 2 Try to minimize this shadow effect on this portfolio pics.. Put a very small shadow effect, and then maybe on the hover put bigger shadow.. But be carefull, because the shadow effect doesn't work in IE8.. Maybe a darker border should do a trick.. Summary:

Minor Problem on conceptsingle.png 1 What is this Site about? I see that your Name is Mike A Hurwitz, but I can't see what you are offering for Customers. Write the stuff that you offer in your header or make a Headline. Nobody will know you are for hire and what to hire you for... :-) New Idea on conceptsingle.png 1 Make a About and a Contact Page, so ppl can get to know you... 2 Headline too small, no picture and to much Text that is also too small in Font-Size. Nobody will read through this. Make it more interesting :) Summary:
Change some of the things that I wrote about. And then people will hire you :-)
