| Minor Problem on http://skhot.com | |
| 1 | Why do I care? - Think about it, as a possible client, what can you say to get me to at least attempt to find out how to ask you to work with me... |
| Serious Problem on http://skhot.com | |
| 1 | Don't like this symbol / icon
|
| 2 | Don't really think this is necessary
|
| 3 | No CTA - ok, so I am interested - but I don't know where and how to hire you...
|
| 4 | I'm not really sure that this overly relevant to the end user especially not for a homepage
|
| 5 | It's ok, but there seems to be a lot of wasted real estate up here - remember the fold...
|
Scott or Skhot,
I see what you are trying to achieve, however as a user experience and interface designer I think, you have overlooked a couple of vital parts to your site...
Ok added my notes, so hopefully this is of use to you.
Good Luck!
Thanks for you thoughts, I really appreciate your feedback! They're very useful.
| Critical Problem on http://skhot.com | |
| 1 | this image is totally unnecessary
|
| 2 | not crazy about this image either.
|
| 3 | the onHover event is pretty weak. you can do better than a purple border onHover!
|
| 4 | as already mentioned by others, this needs to be a huge CTA on the page.
|
| 5 | totally lacking creativity
|
Hello Scott - ok, I really don't care for the color combinations or the font choices. The background colors need to be more vibrant rather than pastel. Possibly incorporating some shadow effect on some of the elements would add some depth to the page as well. IMO, the site doesn't convey a message of you being a User Experience and Interface Expert. I hate to say it, because you're probably a very skilled designer, but the site actually looks quite amateurish.
Also, I think you should be very careful when you mention what technologies/ languages you have experience in. Saying you create sites using PHP & SQL makes no sense. PHP doesn't write to SQL, it writes to MySQL where-as ASP.NET or ASP would write to a SQL database.
Looking at your source code, there are also some SEO issues.
your meta description is too long, and it's also the same as the opening copy text. Search engines don't like that. The description should be a fairly short blurb with keywords that are also used on the page. (but not word for word).
no alt tags for images
no title tags on your links
take out the unused code rather than commenting it out.
the image you are using for real experience is pretty bad as well. , I would remove it altogether.
please see my notes
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and share your thoughts! :)
I appreciate all of your suggestions. I agree it does look amateurish. Some constructive feedback should help me get over that hump, that's why I posted it here.
You're right, I've only worked with PHP, MySQL and MsSQL. I didn't realize that just SQL was it's own version.
Wow! Thanks for looking at my source code, great idea for feedback! I'm still kind of in sandbox mode but I had to make it official for certain reasons. I'll be addressing each one of the points you listed about it.
Thanks again! Scott
I hope it didn't sound too harsh.... and I should have worded the SQL bit better. I should have said MS SQL. :-/
I love hearing feedback and I really appreciate your thoughts. :)

| 1 | Perhaps too much text at the top of the page. I'd rather have some of the "I have helped 536 people donate..." stats or whatever at the top of the page. |

| 1 | I think this pushes down the primary content too far. The header is too large. |
| Serious Problem on http://skhot.com | |
| 1 | I think the contrast for this text makes it hard to read. |

| 1 | What about a different concept here so people don't have to scroll down to see the final product. Perhaps the wireframe could be pealing back to reveal the final product? And a click could reveal the whole final product? Just an idea. |
There are some great things going on here, but I'm afraid the design of the portfolio pages actually betrays the fact that you are a good "user experience and interface expert". The site needs to put the user in better control and perhaps have a more obvious navigation system. Also, I think things like the "Getting Results" section could really be the most compelling parts of the site.
I completely agree with you about it betraying my skills. One of the reasons I posted this on concept feedback is to find out what users think so that I could fix the problems. I'm going to work on the portfolio pages so they are easier to use. Lots of other great insight too! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts! :)
A few thoughts:
What I would like to see:
I would love to see that directly next to the screenshot, so I see what it is about. In the end, you want to acquire customers who have certain questions they want to have answered and solved. Help me here please.
I want to see whom I work with.
3.Something about the technical skills, with which technology you worked
If I am a business person and have some kind of techie person in my company, I want to make sure you can work with him too.
Dear Vincent ;),
Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts! I'm certain you are a very busy man.
Really appreciate the suggestions for supporting content, I've been dreading that part. Your list will make it heaps easier.
Can you clarify #3 (technical skills) for me? Is the "Web Technology" section not working as is?
Thanks again! Scott
I would suggest shortening the text and moving the charts and results section higher. Your flavor and stats are strong.

| 1 | your logo does not attracks to much of attention with those comniantion of colors |
i would try using a lihgter background color behaind yur logo
Indeed! Mostly, I want to let the user know where they are and a little bit about me. I tried to keep it short. You echoed some of my own concerns. It is possible I could move the second sentence closer to the end...that might solve the problem but I want to make it clear that my name is Scott and my website name is skhot. Meh.
